It's more like a Hybrid, RTS mixed with 4X elements. Like the old Sins of a Solar Empire, or Shiro's previous game, Northguard. I'd say it's the best Dune game I've played, but not the best pure RTS. Watch some gameplay videos, and see what you are getting into.
That being said, the new update coming out the 7th, is adding Hero units, and is trying to adjust combat overall. So there is a chance it could add more interesting tactics to the RTS side of the game.
Its very good, but saying its the best in a field of giants is funny.
That's why I was explaining to the OP, that this really isn't a strict RTS. If you compare it to a game like Starcraft or Age of Empires, especially from a competitive multiplayer, it won't hold a candle. Of course I find it odd you included Black and White, and Sacrifice in your list.
This is a great RTS/4x hybrid. So it really depends what you are looking for.
Also, just because some people said something, it does not make it true. At this point you need to try it yourself, and keep in mind the 2 hour window for refund if you don't like it.
Turin has some nice videos of MP which he uploads often, if you want to watch some MP and how it plays out. He explains a lot of stuff while playing in each video, so you will not be lost for the duration of the game.
I love the game myself, but tags like "best RTS" is mostly a personal opinion. You can find plenty of people active to play with MP as well, regardless of how many are playing concurrently. Have fun if you buy it.
if i dont like Northgard or CK2/3 type of games will I hate Dune Spice Wars?
just like a restaurant, if the restaurants and the foods are really that good, surely there will be more customers coming.
