We just saw Dune 2 and she was hoping to play Spice Wars after watching the second movie. She saw all the characters and felt so ambivalent. None of the factions inspire her, so she is disinterested. Northgard has heroes/faction leaders she can get behind, but "gross old men and generally ugly people" make relating to a faction leader impossible. At best, Fremen are her only option.

The looks of the main characters here, and the lack of dialogue, does not make us willing to fight for them or their house. Every single previous Dune title is in my opinion better in that regard, she should play the previous titles.

Dune 1 has an amazing soundrack by Stephane Picq, you can check the extended version on this bandcamp ( https://stphanepicq.bandcamp.com/album/dune-spice-opera-2024-remaster ).

Dune 2 has excellent RTS gameplay and some mentat lore, but Dune 2000 and Emperor were great. I think it's Emperor which has acted cutscenes, with actors such as Rhys Davies.

... what Spice Wars has for it is an amazingly polished engine ( a Hegemony III and Sins of a Solar Empire mix ) and some of the rulesets which give an excellent "boardgame vibe", but it has none of the passionate Mentats, which were pivotal in all previous game titles (inspired by Peter de Vries, by Brad Dourif in Dune 84) but very absent in Villeneuve's version.

Try tabletop version with your wife first maybe? there's more room for imagination, see how it goes?
Also "gross old men and generally ugly people " is exactly how most Dune-universe highborns are portrayed in the books, so no contradiction here as well.

Grew up playing this game. Wish it would get a remaster. Thank you so much for the link. I did not know I could support the artist and get a remastered version of this album!
