The most Dune-like RTS in the last 10 years besides this game is probably Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak? It's sci-fi combat on a desert planet at least. It often comes up at 90% off in sales if you want to pick it up.
For an RTS/4X hybrid like this game with less politics/diplomacy I'd suggest Sins of a Solar Empire, it's a bit older than your time frame but it's still great, and the sequel is in development. Also a few years out of that time frame is what I'd consider the last proper descendant of the original Dune 2, Command & Conquer 3. And the game that was so big that it sucked all the oxygen out of the RTS genre for more than a decade was Starcraft 2. I hate telling people to play anything made by EA or Blizzard but those are both still some of the best RTS games ever.
If you want a pure RTS the one I'd currently recommend to anyone with zero reservations is Beyond All Reason, it's a free open source Total Annihilation-like game. The big upcoming RTS to watch is Stormgate which may be coming next year. The biggest recently released traditional RTS that is still currently being updated is probably Age of Empires IV, I'm not sure I can fully recommend it but it's worth checking out. The niche non-traditional RTS game I like the most at the moment is WARNO, but that's in early access at the moment and definitely not for everyone.
Dune Spice Wars is the mid point between this batsh8t crazy ^ and the slow 4x games
