Desert(including desolates), mountains and map boarders also help
It might also be a good idea to abandon masterpiece-filled villages on your borders or in any villages you happen to take close to enemy capitals or in otherwise untenable positions, so that if any opponents come and take the provinces, they have to hurt their Authority and Landsraad Standing destroying your artwork if they want to use those building slots.
Something important to note about those Sanctuary villages, they are basically a free bank of solari and military exp for Ecaz as Ecaz can still pillage them if you have time and resources to do that
Edit: Ok, Pillaging them is actually pretty GOAT, if you have 5 Masterpieces then that's also a decent amount of Plascrete which is nice, not sure why I've only really heard people say bad things about Mesa, then again not heard much about Ecaz in general so probably 1 or 2 people who don't much care for the catch and release style of play.
