CHOAM Shares
What's a counter strategy to the CHOAM Shares victory condition?

What's the tactic for preventing a faction from owning sufficient shares to win?

Buying them yourserlf, harassing their economy(clap harvesters, no need to recapture spice villages, but clapping rafinery would be a good idea if you can).

Best way to block a CHOAM victory is elimination. That dumps all their shares back onto the market, tanking the CHOAM share price.

If you are going for economy-wrecking, I recommend actively targeting resource buildings in villages you are laying siege to. That way if you're driven off or have to withdraw, they still have to rebuild.

this doesn't feel possible if the opponent is too far away from you to attack, There should be some espionage missions screw with the market or something like that, feels like a very flat way to win or lose.

I just lost a game while playing Harkonnen because Corrino skyrockettedon the CHOAM and couldnt be stopped, also Atreide was in front of me so impossible to attack Corrino. I manage to assassinate Atreides but it was to late, i think the emperor is a number one priority now

I played as Fremen and Corrino started buying stocks , quickly racing past 40%. So I attacked its secondary base (which was not fortified) and then wrestled 2 of their spice fields. It was a certain blow to their economy, so they sold like 3% to cope with difficulties. I then proceeded with an assassination plot against Atreides to prevent them from beating me to Hegemony. When my spies succeeded, this brought CHOAM stock market crashing, as all their stocks were released. So I bought some at low prices. This naturally led to stock price rising again, so that my Corrino adversary could no longer afford any (he was wasting money trying to get that 3rd spice field, with my detachment of troops blocking him from that expansion). This all gave me enough time to get to 25k Hegemony win.

Yeah i think its the way to do, just bully Corrino wile trying to assassinate Atreides.
Tho in my game, no one instead of Corrino had CHOM shares, so killing another faction xont be really impactful i think.

Also the guerilla tactics as fremen are easier, with Harkonnen (which i truelly feel underpowered now) or Atreides its a lot harder

Since the introduction of CHOAM, I have been making some big changes to my overall strategy no matter who I play.

The biggest one is I'm far less interested in having contiguous territory. Having, instead, a smattering of territories all over the place (or as Corino having two distinct blocks) means there is no 'way over the other side of the map'. At worst, there is airfield deployment time or worm time.

Being able to harass or interfere with any other faction's economy is critical, and with the ability to incite rebellions no longer accessible that means boots on the ground, pillaging and actively demolishing economic structures even if I'm not able to press a siege to completion.

are you doing this vs AI? i dont think you can sustain such position vs Players. authority cost will also put you behind either in tech so you can decrease cost while another takes mil/eco/pol tech or territory and thus economy/army amount will be affected
That has been an option with Atreides all along. Just peacefully annex needed villages and connect with Airfields

Wow. Well done.

Was going for the Insanity achievement as Corrino yesterday, and the AI did to me just that; through the game I had maintained peace with the Fremen as my neighbours, and as I managed to beat down on Atreides so they wouldn't win via Hegemony, the Fremen backdoored my Imperial Base and in that one simple act stole the victory from me at the very end.

I was pissed off. Still am. Lesson learned.

played only one game as Corrino after the patch, like i thought they are totaly overpowered, swam in money, so i coud nearly ever buy the 20stacks of shares, but because i dont got it correct for the second when the buy cooldown went off (woud be nice to get a sign for that so i dont need to guess) the smuggler Hard AI started buying too and taken me over. at the End i got the warning that Smugglers reached 40% Shares and 2 Min later i won Hegmony with the next Enemys Heg not even at 10k :)
A Big Problem with the Shares is the CD Timing, even when you go into the CHAOM Menu every few seconds the AI beats you in Timing (and somehow the Buy CD dont budge as long you stay in the CHAOM Window)

go to options and uncheck "pause while in menu" you will have like 2-3s cd before buying next butch of shares without closing menu

I'm making Corrino my main and I'm winning most games with the choam strategy. I mean it feels great making alliances with the other factions, giving them all free money, spice, plascrete and soldiers and watching them squabble amongst themselves as you grab choams. I never put any research into military but everything into economy and then just sell choams and buy infinite mercenarys if someone dares to attack. I'm guessing a counter is other factions to make alliances and take out the emperor early on in the game.

How can you even win by CHOAM? It seems impossible. Even if I have 4 spice fields and stop paying taxes and dump my entire solari income into CHOAM shares for an hour of 1.5 game speed, it's still not enough. The market keeps adding shares and diluting, so my % owned inches up at a glacial pace.
Arkantos Oct 11, 2022 @ 12:31pm
Problem is that if u disable the economy victory they still buy choams. No sense.
