I confirm what you say.
To give a recent example. Gog made me discover the game "The entropy center" (that I would certainly never have noticed on steam because of the quantity of games) that I don't know. When I saw the pictures and video of the game, it made me want to buy it. Not only for its quality, but above all because the developer made the effort to release it on gog and I wanted to support him to thank him. I loved the game and I don't regret my purchase.

But if I had seen it on steam, I wouldn't have bought it because of the drm (I would have waited as always for the sales to buy it).

All this to say that, even if the sales on gog are modest. Many people are willing to pay full price to thank the effort and courage of a studio that releases its games drmfree.

One more thing. We must not forget that video games are an art like cinema or music.

So we must preserve video games. And to have discussed with people who deal with that. They confirm me that it is more and more difficult to preserve the video game because of all the drm.

Yeah I am in the same boat. I discovered many games on GOG which I otherwise wouldn't have found in Steam or just overlooked, and bought some of them because the game looked interesting and I appreciated it being on GOG.

The thing with GOG is also that it's much easier to get noticed there, as the store isn't flooded with trash games and asset flips, like Steam is.

Sure it's extra work for the developer, but I never heard from any gamedev (I am a gamedev myself) that it didn't pay off.

My big concern is that they will add steam workshop support which will lock all other customers out of the modding community.

No worries, even if they add Steam workshop support, modding can still exist outside of Steam. Many games have mods on the Steam workshop and also on other sites like Nexus.

Not for piracy yoooouu silly people...
But because I legitimately like to keep archival copies of the offline installers for my favorite games .. I live in Mayberry and the innerweb takes a crap sometimes.
(This is a highly selective list, mind you. Right now it encompasses the Panzer/Fantasy generals, the Dark Forces series, Battle sector and 40k Armageddon.. I would happily add this gem to my survive-the-apoc game collection however)

but sounds like piracy/advertisements bot for me, for many others especially when you sit around the steam forum to beg for it on another platform which doesn't include drm where many people just pirate games.. Some people like you are legitimate reasons but that's like the 10%

That´s BS. GOG Games are not pirated more than any non-Denuvo protected games. Games with only Steam-DRM are cracked anuploaded within hours - often you can pre-load them and than just load the crack. Steam offer 0 piracy protections, and gog.com games are less likely to be uploaded since many sites and uploaders refuse to upoload gog games.

GOG gives you 100% control of your games (off line installers, seperates installers for every update, no forced updates, you can rollback to older versions with ease. Their forums are - in oppite to these very forums - no toxic bastion of hate, open racism and sexism. They offer you a garantueed 30 days refund policy for any game, no matter how long you played (which they can´t track anyway unless you use the optional Galaxy Hub).
This removes the most common reason people pirate games - to test them because they dont want to shell out 50-70 bucks for a game they end up not to like.

Their rating system is also better (1-5 Stars), which gives you a more detailed and better impression than the stupid hit or miss system Steam has.

IT offers an optiional client, Gog Galaxy which combines all Games on your PC from different Stores (Steam, MS, Epic, Orgin), and non storefront games into one hub.

Oh, and there is gog connect which links gog and steam accounts. When supported, gives you free games for your gog libary for some and huge discounts on others games, when you own then on Steam.

The only thing that Steam offers, which Gog.com which is at least theroatically a good thing is the workshop for mods. Which I prefer on to get on dedicated mod sites whenever possible, as Steam censors mods, and the quantity and quality is usual much inferior than on dedicated sites.

So whenever I have the choice, I prefer gog. And most of the time I re-buy my games on gog (or I get them via gog connect for free ;-)

Mike Rose from "No More Robots" did pull out of GoG for poor returns, however...
For Steam he puts in HUGE effort into marketing the game before release, seriously the guy really knows his stuff on this. But at no point says "this is coming to GOG as well"

The releases on GoG late Day 1 or a few days later, and wonders why no ones buying his game on GoG.

For "Not Tonight" he said about 1% of copies were sold via GoG

Compare that to 8% for Divinity 2:Original Sin, the difference is Larian Studios studios announced a GoG release, supported the GoG release and all their marketing included "Also on GoG"

If you treat GoG and its users as an after thought, you're not going to get a good return.

Unfortunately GOG Connect is all but Dead, it was always highly dependant on the publisher supporting it.

As for Steam Workshop, GoG hinted there will soon be a GOG alternative (I think it was when Skyrim got its GoG release). Personally I hope its a partnership with Nexus mods, that builds their mod service direct into Galaxy.
Disappointing i checked GOG just to see if this game was there, and its not. Oh well lost a sale, onto bigger and better. Yeah, i like gog solely for simplicity no drm headaches, and i know i can archive and reinstall whenever from my offline lan only accessible archive server. Sales are primarily affected by, marketing, if we don't know about a product how are we gonna buy it? I wouldn't unless its a game i actually have been watching closely and waiting for a gog release, because i don't like DRM tied into games i buy. I mean heck if this game i could repack from the steam build and play w/out steam client i'd have no problem buying it from steam either. Just gog amongst others makes it easier to launch the game, with out any dependent launcher or needing to tweak any settings what so ever. Has nothing to do with piracy and everything to do with offline convenience and play.

GOG is a dreamland to pirate games with ease...
There is already a "Pirate Release" of the Game without Gog.

We'll be looking at other storefronts once we release out of Early Access (maybe sooner if we see enough demand). So it's very possible we end up on there :)

James
Then I am waiting for the Gog Release. Release 1.0 came out.
Dune on Steam is not an option for me.
I have Northgard on Steam and Gog, but on Gog with all DLCs (I am not a Pirate).
+1 for GOG :)

Yeah i also love to be able to archive my games and install different versions. Especially in RTS games with weird balancing you can choose the right update with good balancing for your favourite fraction etc :D

Since Dune spice wars seems to be 1.0 now and the Dune Part 2 Cinema Movie will be here soon in winter time, i think this is the perfect timing to double dip and fully release on Gog :D
I'll buy it when it's released on GOG too :)

+1 for GOG, been waiting for the game to release there too
+1 to a GOG release. It would be received with a warm welcome from all our community.

Please don't put this game on GOG. It is easy to download the cracked GOG installer of the game once its available there.
