Why is there no Emperor: Battle For Dune remake/remaster?
I wouldn't consider this an off topic because it's also addressed to this upcoming game.

I love the RTS genre and Emperor: Battle For Dune is one of my favorite games. I love the soundtrack, the gameplay, the mechanics of getting reinforcements from your near regions and defend on the same maps you've already played if attacked. Considering that the game is from 2001 and provided epic experience for it's time I am quite annoyed by the fact that no developer/publisher ever decided to make a newer version of this gem. I think it's highly related to the fact that many fans (for some weird reason) decided to continue playing ONLY the classics Dune 2/2000. The rivaling in RTS genre was always strong with WC/SC/RA/C&C Generals and of course the C&C series and I feel like E:BFD was mostly unnoticed by most players.

Probably has to do with licensing and ownership rights more then anything. Some companies sit on IP's for years not realizing something can be done with them.

The rights based on the old dune games are really screwy and a mess. This is why no remasters have been done.

+1 for
Emperor battle for dune needs REMAKE (not remaster since u would get again OS problems). Since that one doesn't run well on current OS / systems sadly.

But only, because emperor was quite unique and because with technical problems on current platforms. Also in my humble opinion emperor was superior to dune2 or dune2000.

Recently i tried to instal original Emperor on Win10. And you need to fumble around, not convenient to instal it properly :c

Dune2 or Dune2000 dont need remasters since there are superior Linux Opensource ports. Don't fear some also work in windows!
You might as well check into OpenDune, when u liked the multiplayer aspect of dune2000 ^^

No point in remastering grandfather games. I mean developers are very expensive and it's actually very smart that they try new take on dune universe for Dune: Spice wars.

People we need innovative new games. I'm quite interested in a new 4X hybrid.

Remasters / remake destroy the industry and make the consumer stupid and artistically dull xD

There is a pretty recent project called "Corrino Engine", a recreation of the original EBFD engine. It's open source, in the same vein as OpenDune and OpenRA I think. This could enable us to get a remake with modern graphics, or at the very least better textures and widescreen support (to me the biggest issue with the original game). No releases yet though. https://github.com/cookgreen/CorrinoEngine

Emperor: Battle for Dune is one of the most underrated RTS of all time

+1 :steamthis:

Sadly, one of the few early 2000's PC games that wont run correctly on modern OS (XP,7,8,10)

Yes it does. Last time i played it, it ran perfectly and all that i needed was a fixed setup.exe

I have read more than once on Reddit that current IP holders specifically wanted to move forward with new game designs rather than remaster the old titles. It would be awesome to see all of the old Westwood games remastered by Petroglyph.

Dune is doomed by rights. Mostly, the big names got this kind of problems after the maker is dead.. sadly offspring of them mostly fails the humanity..
