Ben the old wanderer and the behemoth

I've been trying to find and fight Ben for a good while now. I've pulled over 3K pristine hide from the place during my efforts. Every time I find him, I'm at level, I get chased out of the area by an attacking behemoth that's skull level. I've gone day and night, trying to get this boss down, and am always ambushed. What can I do differently to overcome this? lol

After trying this all day, finally the behemoth was a no-show. I don't know if its a bug or not had my blood boiling for a good while. :D
