Black Screen when Launching, Cannot Play
The splash screen is visible for 0.02 seconds and then the screen goes black. Nothing loads, no sounds, no other visuals. Just bought the game and can't get it to launch.

Verified Integrity
Checked all Driver Updates
Checked all Windows Updates
Renamed .dlls no fix
Uninstalled, and Reinstalled the Game and Steam
Run as Admin
Disable Fullscreen opt
Close all background processes

I cannot for the life of me find what the issue is. I currently cannot get to my desktop to see if I have the same issue there.

Specs:

AMD Ryzen 7 6800H (Up to date)
Nvidia 3060 Laptop GPU (Up to date)
32GB RAM
WIndows 11 (Up to date)

Edit:

This is what I see.

Version listed on the bottom right, and my screens backlight is lit, so it's trying to display the game, but its not getting any information to display.

Edit #2:

If I launch through just the .exe (not steam or desktop icon) I get the full splash screen but obviously get the steamworks initialization failure.

The same, Is there a solution?
kovatsits Jan 20, 2024 @ 12:02am
Same for me, the interesting thing is, I played for about 30-40 hours without this issue (I started playing after the gloomrot update) and then, it just started showing the aformentioned black screen. I tried everything that came to mind, windows, driver upgrades, file integrity check, reinstall you name it. I noticed that if I reboot the computer sometimes for the 3-4th time it works. Lately I found out that just waiting for 10-15 mins (no joke) it just starts. The thing is, my girlfriend had the same problem, the same time when playing at my place, BUT as she went to her parents, she no longer had the issue. My educated guess is that the game has some kind of connectivity issue.

So I did some testing, and for me, it was indeed some problem with connection. I restarted my router, and the game starts up like nothing ever happened. Hope this helps!

I have the same issue on linux with proton

You can try editing the ClientSettings.json

It's located here: users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/Stunlock Studios/VRising/Settings/v2

I added these settings:

"HasSeenCinematic": true,
"HasCompletedFirstStartupV2": true,
"UseEOSServerSearch": false,
"WindowMode": 0,

And this is where they go in your ClientSettings.json (there's more settings in there, I just removed some for clarity; you can leave your other settings):

"GameClient": {
"HasSeenCinematic": true,
"HasCompletedFirstStartupV2": true,
"UseEOSServerSearch": false,
"Interpolation": {}
},

"GraphicSettings": {
"Resolution": {
"x": 1920,
"y": 1080
},
"WindowMode": 0,
}

For everyone for that did not work, like me:

If you used Reshade in the previous Version of the Game, google how to delete it.
I idid remove it from the Game Directory and now it starts just fine.

I uninstalled the game and then went to users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/

And deleted the Stunlock Studios folder. Then reinstalled the game.

Stupid, we have to do this.
