Honestly not sure why this game isn't more popular.
Played I think when it first came out (or at least around that time) both my friends and I really enjoyed the game however got bored when the server we had decided to play on died off (It was PvP) however coming back to this game again with a friend I've really been enjoying it. I know there is an update coming in a bit but still, the gathering, fighting, spells, building ect are all top notch at least I find them to be so. I love the fact the world feels alive as well. Undead will fight the living each. Patrols can encounter each other. Even some bosses will fight each other if they meet.

Just.. Maybe it's because I've taken a break but feels a shame there isn't more people playing since the game has a lot to offer.

the game isnt more popular because of questionable decisions of the devs since EA. with focus on PvP despite the fact that it could offer much more PvE wise (which correlates to how dead PvP servers usually are) and scheduled wipes despite the fact that it can take 60-80 hours to clear the mainquest and additional 100+ hours for a proper build castle.

Oh ok.

I mean I do understand the PvP thing. (even though I'm enjoying PvE at the moment) If you get a good PvP community they will stick around for years.

Maybe with the new update they will make a lot of good changes?
sad fact is that the new update will wipe everything clean again because the saves are incompatible with the new version which means that players who enjoyed PvE on a private server for 100s of hours (which seems a big part of the playerbase reading the threads over it) will loose everything if they want to play the new update. also new updates dont necessarily mean the game becoming better. in EA shards provided a buff which came handy for both PvP and PvE which got replaced by PvP focused slot amulets on 1.0 that provide almost no benefit in PvE compared to how it was before with buffs + amulet slot additionally.

I think it's pretty popular ( given reviews, peaks and currently online players given the kind of game ).

Plus, with every big update, some will come back to see the new stuff.

It's just that, having a start and an end, once completed, one moves onto the next game ( it's not the kind of game that has something grindy to do at the end, luckily. Even the stygian shard farm was a total failure that added nothing to the game, and I think the devs already knows this ).
I think it's the goat in my game library... I KEEP COMING BACK. I agree PvE could use more love though. I have yet to co op PvE because no one seems to play it while I am. I like custom setting servers

It was popular until recently when players found out their saves are not going to be compatible with future major updates. But if you're cool with playing just to pass the time, that's cool.

I play Rust a lot where every server wipes every single month (I think even the PvE servers) so having an old save not be compatible doesn't really surprise me. Same thing for 7 Days to Die.

I know people will have put in a lot of time and effort onto their servers but isn't it somewhat exciting to start again with the new update as well?

Yeah, this isn't a live service game. They just recently came out of "early access" and players are finding out post 1.0 release their saves won't carry over with any major updates.

The game is pretty much in a early access state as they are still working the core mechanics and map layout. Most play PVE private solo with friends and family. They don't want to have to start over after putting in a lot of progress, time and effort. Just for a little bit of new content and that their saves won't carry over.

If you are cool with it, that's awesome. It's a great game.

Fair that's understandable.

i can only but second this.

the game is clearly designed as a "one and done" so once you have completed the main quest to kill dracula, you pretty much leave and be about it...

the pvp is absolutely unbalanced and unfair, therefore, it empty by itself faster than it fill itself... remember PvP is fun, but only when you are not o the receiving end, nobody enjoy being a bottom feeder.

so far the greatest content is the coop and pve content, i've seen more folks stick around to paly together, help each others killing boss and building fancy castle, and even roleplay thrive.

the devs completely missed their audience, there is folks that both enjoy pvp and pve but clearly it hint that pve people are more enthousiast than pvp, yet devs wanted to focus on pvp in the prior updates of the game, no wonder it all went awhole, not to mention that a RNG based system for item drop frustrated everyone to the brim, nobody like to farm an item purely out of luck for hours.

the only good point of that game is that you hop on it every update since it is like 1/year or so, clear content, do a bit of what you like and move on back to others game. there is simply nothing that keep the average player there, not to mention the average wipe which make a player unable to keep its game progression for more than 2-3 months at best, did i said 2-3 months ? just kidding, who the ♥♥♥♥, keep a reminder to feed their castle blood to avoid being claimed off after 1-2 weeks...

you ask me the game isn't that much a success playerbase wise, because it is designed as such.

BRO you keep saying "it was popular until recently" THIS IS THE THIRD time we have gone through this.. 1.0 or not who cares. Watch ON release I grantee EVERYONE comes back. Including you. Nobody gives a ♥♥♥♥ enough about the wipe to never play this game again, it is one of the best games to be made in recent years hands down.

The ONLY reason why it's "dead" in some peoples eyes is because it's not a live service game that is meant to be played forever. There is a very clear, beginning, middle and end. Then it's over. You build a cool castle, kill all the bosses, make all the gear and maybe PVP a little. That's it. then people wait (patiently) for the next update or like you cry in the forums incessantly for months.

This game will be back to top played games the second the new update hits I grantee.

you don't lose anything. you can keep playing on your server if you like. this is a free upgrade to a released game. stop being so entitled

I'll have to mildly disagree with this statement.
As of 1.0, which introduces achievement. You can see the "Enter Farbane Woods" achievement currently only have 45% completion.
So, around 55% of total VRising players (mostly from Early Access) did not bother returning for 1.0

We'll probably get plenty of newcomers on the update, but unfortunately there's also a lot who won't bother coming back.
You can count that the concurrent user reach Draculillion players whenever new big update drops. It's not that it's unpopular, it's just people are one-and-done kind of situation with this game, regardless they finished defeating Solarus/Adam/Dracula or not.
