i've looked into some search and i really don't expect much considering we only have bat and exe format so far

if you've found any alternative to wine tho, by all means, please do share, my research are fruitless on that and i am confident that linux support isn't a priority sadly.

https://github.com/Ponjimon/vrising-docker
https://github.com/TrueOsiris/docker-vrising

Though these are using Wine, ofcourse.
But you know its 2023, This game has been out for quite a while and they posted on their Github that they would support it, officially.
11 Months ago, Silence, nothing.
So just a cocktease?

So far, as i can see even on their Discord people with the same question are just getting outright ignored.
Atleast give some statement, its not hard.
> No, we cant deliver XY until or never.

But this is just.. eh

thanks for the links, also yeah so far i am greeted with silence fro mthe dev on that matter.

i'l ltake your words for granted that they said they'll support it so let's simply assume that it's nowhere near a priority, their game is still early access and they have yet 2 major updates to deliver beyond the upcomming one, i'l lgive them the benefit of the doubt until they full release i guess.

Are people from SLS even reading these Threads?
Lywelyn May 13, 2023 @ 1:50pm
frankly i assume they do not, havn't seen them around, at least not in the thread i've read, the only presence is pinned announcement, i guess they stick around social media and their discord and anything beyond that is terra non grata

man using a docker is such a complex cluster ♥♥♥♥ for real, all the request keep getting delay to such point that the .exe give up lol i could manage to get a server on and runing, except the server does not answer any query from clients connecting. i might give up at this point.
Sinistrum May 17, 2023 @ 3:27am
Got it running, If you need any help setting it up through a basic docker -> wine env, just dm me
Bazim May 17, 2023 @ 3:41am
Ye wine is working but still IT Will be good to have Linux version
LordTyr85 May 17, 2023 @ 4:12am
@Sinistrum i sent u a friend request, but maybe it's interesting for others too:
I am currently setting up the docker by Ponjimon, but it says the version of the server is baked into the image. Does this mean we'll need to wait until someone releases a new docker image for Gloomrot?

I've tried setting up without docker, using xvfb-run and wine to start, but the server just shuts down without any error message during startup.
Morse May 17, 2023 @ 4:22am
Starting the server with wine is indeed painful. Especially on headless, where you need to use xvfb. But then I learned about pterodactyl. It's an open-source management system for game servers, and it supports a ton of games through 3rd-party plugins (called eggs). Installing pterodactyl is also a pain, but it has a clear instruction for all the major distros. And after that launching VRising dedicated server is just the matter of pressing a button.

@morse does pterodactyl not have that issue of having to wait until someone updates an "egg"?
im running debian on my server vm's so it sholdnt be too crazy to set up

Maybe sometimes. But right now, for example, my VRising server updated automatically when I launched it. I can't test is though, since I'm supposed to work :) but it started fine, so I assume everything is fine. For VRising the egg uses steamcmd, so the update is done by steam itself, no need to update the egg.

If you running the debian in vm it might be a problem though, since pterodactyl uses docker under the hood. I don't know how well docker works inside the vm, if at all.
