Ghost yarn being craft only makes no sense
Hello,
I'm at the point in the game where I need ghost yarn, only I'm six levels under leveled to take on Matka. Now because gear level is tied to better gear, it literally makes no sense that the only way I can get ghost yarn is to defeat Matka and gain the recipe for crafting. I mean, if it's necessary to the crafting recipe, It should've been obtainable before it became needed not after

Matka is level 77. Ghost yarn is needed to craft Bloodmoon armor. Without it, you can reach up to level 81 (or 80 without ancestral weapon).

That doesn't sound right as I'd need onyx tears to make the better legendary weapons in the ancestral forge and the boss you need to beat to get that recipe, is level 79 a full eight levels above me at 71

I checked it myself. Without legendary weapons, you can reach level 80. Sanguine weapon (Dark silver unlocked by Cyril, level 65), Blood Merlot amulet (unlocked by Baron, level 70), full Dawnthorn armor (unlocked by Octavian, level 57). Athenaeum unlocked by Blackbrew, level 74.

Your strength will essentially be:
Dawnthorn, dark silver, upgraded scourgestone: level 71.
Defeat Baron (level 70): Scourgestone goes to Merlot: level 74.
Defeat Blackbrew (level 74): unlock ability for improved gear: Merlot upgrades and Dark silver upgrades 3 points each: level 80.
Fight Matka (level 77).

One can potentially acquire and build a legendary weapon for 1 more gear score, but it's not necessary. You can also drink pure enough brute blood to gain an additional level.

Onyx Tears aren't craft only. Any 74+ boss drops them with low chances.

Blackbrew and the Ogre are the easiest for obvious reasons.

There is no boss in the game you are forced to fight with gear score below even.

The closest is Ungora, but even she can be matched with a Blue weapon.

Sanguine weapons aren't unlocked until you beat the level 74 priest dude in bright haven, you need gold ingots to make them and will not have the recipe to make them before then

I've got the dawnthorn gear and darksilver weapons, haven't done anything with the blood merlot yet

Ok, but that wasn't claimed, I only said that I'd need them. Well, I was under leveled against matka and you need to fight her so, I'd disagree. Now, I admit I don't always fight those bosses in order, but it seems silly to me that you can unlock crafting recipes before you can unlock the ingredients needed for said recipe. I mean, by the time I unlock the blood moon gear, I should have already unlocked the ghost yarn recipe. So my progression isn't stalled by a fight. It wasn't this way in the beginning, you were able to switch over to merciless nightstalker gear as soon as you unlocked it. Since you already had access to the materials needed to craft it

You can unlock Maja before you unlock Quincey, resulting in the exact same situation.

True, I did miss that. So you'll be level 77 to defeat a level 74 boss. At that point, you either fight him and then be able to reach level 80, or you're the same level as Matka and you can pummel her on even ground.

This is incorrect as well.

Gold Ingot crafting isn't unlocked, but you can still find Gold Ingots in containers around the Cathedral, making it possible (if impractical) to obtain the weapon without defeating Azariel.

Tell that to the game as it clearly shows that, the ability to craft gold ingots is locked behind a boss fight. Specifically against the sun bringer dude in bright haven

Many items are unlocked for crafting by defeating bosses, but most of those items can also be found out in the world, either by breaking boxes, killing certain enemies, or looting chests.

There is no contradiction. These are logically equivalent statements:
Is locked == is not unlocked

For the same reason if you want to say that someone is wounded, you can say that he is hurt or isn't unhurt, although the latter does sound more awkward, the meaning is still the same.

Yes the recipe to *Make* gold ingots is locked behind a boss, but you can still find the ingots without crafting them.

A lot of materials are like this, you will end up needing to find the materials before you ever make them. Glass is a good example of this, especially before the Gloomrot update. It's easier to get the recipe now, but before Gloomrot it was so much worse.

Gold and Scourge stone are 2 examples of much needed materials that you actually can find before you unlock their recipes, and use them early on to get a little edge before fighting the actual boss that gives the recipe.

My advice to you is, look at every boss you have access to now, and see if you can unlock something that might help you. People here are giving you good tips as to building a set to match Matka, so listen to some of it and try it.
If you aren't sure how to get a material, chances are you can beat up some previous bosses or raid some villages near that boss's area to find some of them.

Strategy wise, try changing up your setup if what you're using doesn't help. Maybe a different spell setup or set of weapons. Or a different Blood type that prefers a different playstyle. You may have to adapt a bit. That's one beauty of this game is you can approach a target from different angles.

Rest assured though, they never make you fight something undergeared. If something is higher level than you, chances are you still have something to unlock first to help your chances.

Ya, I'm past her now, I just needed to make the next tier of weapon. Luckily that Sun bringer dude wasn't hard
