weapon and armor recipes

Maybe I'm missing something, but where do you get recipes for iron items? I'm fighting Lvl 44 bad guys with merciless copper gear (lvl12) and even more lackluster warlock armor (lvl 4)

you craft iron weapons in the Smithy

The last Act 1 V Blood Quincy lets you craft basic iron weapons, though you can't do so immediately until you build the smithy, and find a ton of iron ore to smelt into ingots which are much slower(2 minutes per). Some iron weapons are learned from later V Bloods, like the scythe from Kriig in the mines.

Merciless Iron recipes are harder: research is the most reliable but time-consuming, through scrolls(which can be made from paper + coarse thread, or found in Dunley breakables, chests & dropped from mobs there). Once you can shapeshift into a human form, you can spend silver coins in the farms market to buy specific patterns for Merciless Iron weapons. Also you will rarely get Merciless Iron recipes as drops from breakables, chests & mobs but it's definitely a lower than 1% chance, unless you're killing V Bloods over and over and no one else steals the drops.

Keep in mind your gear level goes up and down as you switch weapons in combat, a more reliable way to up your level is improving your magic item(rings get swapped for an amulet) and the four main armor items, which will be cotton & enhanced with iron & thick leather.
