Marked Status

Anyone know what this status from the crossbow attacks do exactly? I'm halfway through the game and just realized I don't know what this is nor is there any direct explanation available.

There is a direct explanation on the crossbow skills if you mouse over them. Rain of bolts and snapshot apply marked, and the primary consumes them for increased attack speed and damage.

[Suzaku]

Mousing over your abilities tells you what they do.

Your crossbow's Q and E attacks apply Marked to an enemy. When hitting a marked enemy with your crossbow's basic attack, it deals 25% more damage and increases attack speed by 7% for 10 seconds, stacking up to 3 times.

Wait I don't get an extended explanation? Only that the target will be marked not what the mark does.. I must be missing something?

it by itself does nothing.
