"Greatsword - has a greater effect on wood"
Ah yes, just as the knights of medieval times were wont to do...kill those pesky invasive tree species with their greatswords!

Sword blades do not make good axes, devs...

Achktually, there's swords that are used for cutting wood.

However, axes are more efficient. You do have to also take into account we're vampires in this game, so you can't apply real world human strength and physics much either

We can chop down trees and mine rocks with a bow.

I just don't get why another WEAPON... a weapon OF WAR.... was given a resource gathering bonus? Why not "Bonus damage to flesh" "bonus damage to humans" "bonus damage to lightly armored foes"
It's dumb, and lazy.

isn't sword for vegetation and not wood ?

Sword is. Greatsword is not.

Off topic but, check out Nicole Coenen. Granted she's only splitting it. Or Bradley Thoren uses the same one.

Striking wood with a sword is a really stupid idea.

Idk why it didn't share bonus vs vegetation.

IDK why that's a thing in the first place... There are already tools for resources.
Why are there bonuses for resource gathering for weapons??
It doesn't take but 5 seconds of thought to come up with a bonus to apply to weaponry intended for fighting humanoids and creatures, they already proved they could with scythes and spears.
mikel_special May 19, 2024 @ 7:21am
Agree this is dumb idea, It should add some bonus to fighting sth.
Suzaku May 19, 2024 @ 7:22am
The real solution to this whole things is: Get rid of the bonuses. All of them. They're pointless at best, misleading at worst.

Increased damage to vegetation? You mean every plant across the entire game that has 1hp? Or that singular plant enemy in Farbane? Useless.

Increased damage to wood? Are trees really so tough to bring down?

You know how many times I've seen people lose their minds because they can't get a merciless copper mace book to drop, so they think they're gated from iron until they get it because they think mace is the only way to break rocks?

The whole system just removes options by making something the "best" option.

Fun fact 99% of "weapons for war" came from TOOLS. Or vice versa. Club used for killing food, pests, each other. Polearms if they couldn't get weapons some miltias would just strap TOOLS to a pole, strapping a knife to a stick was better then showing with just a stick, or a knife. Etc etc. Even first ranged weapons were for hunting, then for hunting people...

Its a sword its what ever you want it to be, you could cut things with it, or people. Its like getting upset when you find out some one with AR rifle is shooting animials instead of people with it sigh.
DocBockNstein May 19, 2024 @ 8:34am
It gathers wood for balance purposes and gives the great sword a gather tool utility to fill since the sword/scythe all ready did vegetation all that is left for the GS is wood. It also allows you to bring a potion or utility item on the tool slot that the axe would have taken up.

I agree with this, I slept on axes for a while because they seemed best used for chopping wood not battle.
Just make some potions give a gathering bonus to resources, and yes we have worker blood which is nice but point stands.

Tbh the real big swords that were used weren't the size of surfboards and weren't wielded by supernaturally strong creatures. Not particularly surprising that the ginormous things this game calls greatswords have an easier time chopping down wood when vampires are strong enough to rip trees down with their claws, if they're persistent enough.
CyberWire May 19, 2024 @ 1:23pm
I agree!! devs bring back the realism like the adding of vampires
