So, am I the only one who feels the -last weapon you get- is weak AF?
I'm avoiding spoilers in the title but if you read the description it's up to you at this point;

I feel like the Whip is extremely weak. Mid range(This one is understandable), but attacks leave you stuck in place like it's a crossbow.
The damage of the attacks is inefficient given that it works like this; It's a 3-attack combo with the range of the Double pistols, but with less attack speed and leaving your stuck like you're using one of the higher attack range weapons. And let's not forget, because of the animation that leaves you stuck, the attack is delayed.

Not only this, but the skills of the weapon don't benefit or even stick with the theme of the whip too much.
-Jump with an AoE that deals just 100% dmg and applies a 1.5 fading snare...Scythe does the same even if it doesn't make me dash, with 160% damage, and a 2.5 fading snare. The Scythe Q also has a shorter cooldown.
-E is just a normal attack with 40 extra damage that entangles, and it's also on a 10 second cooldown. This ability would have been cool if it had the range of a crossbow bolt, and dragged an enemy to the "perfect auto" range before entangling(Or ensnaring). You get this weapon from Domina, and this is an attack she has, so...Where did we go wrong with this? The heck?

And considering we have a Castlevania crossover in the game, and the whip was added with this expansion, wouldn't it be cooler if the whip had one of the abilities based on the vampire Killer's Unholy-combusting magic, but corrupted for vampires? It would be FAR cooler if the Q or the E attack, was a whip attack that makes an explosion on the area of impact if it hits something, and if it kills them they explode in a bigger area...Or whatever.

So many interesting places they could have gone to, and they chose a nerfed crossbow.-Scythe.

Whip has its flaws, but from what I understand, it's mostly meant for summoner style/PVE with friends (co-op). It has some limited mobility, but the three hit combo you mentioned requires you to stand still, when performing it. So you're basically a sitting duck for mobs while using it. Bow and arrow is better, and crossbow has some respectable aoe+distance, not great, but... Respectable... So better bow and arrow than whip.
If you use the whip, you're going to eventually take some hits, it's too slow to be practical in comparison to, say the slashers, and basic sword (which also allow you to move while attacking). Even guns have a duck/dive move you can do, while falling back. Whip brings none of this to the table.

Trash weapon is for players who like a challenge. Devs don't care, it's fine because they say it's fine. Move along.

Well yeah, I get that, but shouldn't the literal weapon you get as the last one in the game be at the very least decent? I'm playing in brutal, I don't need more of a challenge after I've gotten to that point with a quite decent challenge already hahaha

It's not fine, the range restriction is one of the worst design/weapon decisions this game has to offer, unrealistic and makes zero logical sense. All they had to do was a make a minimum and a maximum range on it then base the AoE on cursor location and then it would be fine.

You are so far off base lol. The whip is quite possibly the most broken pvp weapon in the game right now. Most top end players say it needs to be massively nerfed lol.

I don't care about PvP, PvP games are infested with cheaters, eventually you'll get smacked by the AoE everytime due to auto-aim AI.
Regular whip is very mid compared to other weapons. However, the unique legendary whip "Morning Star" is very strong. You get fire dmg and burn dmg which takes it to a very good spot and top tier for certain play styles.

I would argue that one whip out of all possible iterations of upgrades, does not make the whip good because of a single saving grace that players have a less than 10% chance of getting.

Whip as been mvp during multiple pve fights. Made a literal joke out of simon, and basically trivializes the bastards that have AoE spam.

whip is literally one of the best weapons in the game in both pvp and pve, what are you on about? you clearly have not seen the morning star
Im not sure what the goal for the whip was, but I feel like its a great weapon for spell builds. Decent range with splash, has a fairly long distance dash with a large AoE that knocks enemies away (So you can use it to dash to a safe spot, and even clear out mobs if there are some), and a snare for mobs that chase you. Ive used em to beat some bosses with ease. I was less impressed with the slashers.

this isnt a pvp game while it does have pvp its isnt its focus this is very much a pve focused game more so with 1.0

Morning Star in action. Normal whips are meh for solo bossing, but the legendary whip is the greatest thing to ever exist.

Based on what we see now, V Rising is more of a PvE than PvP focused game. The game is pretty much PvE with added PvP aspect atm

Also, whip does better job at close-mid range than pistol on primary attack, because the weapon got an actual splash damage on it's tip like a proper melee weapon. The best way to play whip is to kite the whole group inside it's splash range and watch the number flying due to how reliable the weapon is.

Meanwhile, morning star is pretty much a chef kiss since it buff the ability on already good close-mid range weapon
