Gold can mainly be found in Brighthaven. Break all the boxes there.

the best place I know is Azariel's church, Brighthaven Cathedral. could add that one to your list too, if you have holy protection pots.

Lots of them dropping from villagers in orange biom, just tak 10 mins into town, killing everything whats moving and you should be ok for 3 weapons.

Ransack homes in the big city area on the west side of the map, the zone with the silver mine and all that. Civilians also drop them too IIRC.
