name change a character with hex editor

anyone familiar with this method i learned from google?

even opening in a hex editor shows no regular text just a bunch of random code so i dont know how you are supposed to find and change char name

If you're operating your own (private) server, you can change names via a text editor.
If you're playing on someone else's server (official or community), then you cannot change your name.

Check if you got save compression enabled - disabling might help

If you're on your own server, just enable the console, type AdminAuth to give yourself super user privileges, and then use RenamePlayer OldName NewName

wtf I cant believe all the google searches said nothing about this, only this hex editing that wouldnt seem to work no matter what.
