Confused about moving Castle Heart
Have realised someway into my castle design that I want the heart in a different place, and according to googling I can do this but I can't seem to place a new heart anywhere in my territory.

I've created a 4x4 area outside my castle wall, cleared flooring and placed floor tiles, but when I try to build a castle heart there it just says "territory is occupied".

What am I doing wrong?

I haven't tried since 1.0, but you have to place it onto a blank tile. I.e. no foundation flooring. It threw me when I first tried it during early access.

I've tried both with a foundation floor tile and without (ie just blank cleared foliage). Both times it just says territory is claimed.

I don't have to do anything with the original heart first?

FTR I'm on a solo private server, so its my own territory.
You can't have your castle heart disconnected from your tiles like that. You need to connect your "new" building to the tiles of your existing building if you just want to move your castle heart. You can just pick it up reloacate it and fill in the gap it created( due to the castle foundations not being there were the castle heart was)

In order to unlock relocate your castle you need to build research desk and interact with it. Also you need 100 blood essence. Important for your future castle location - the place has not to be occupied by another vampire (it can't be 'red' on a map). Place relocation heart building and follow it's instructions: 1) interact with it and choose which of your castles you want to relocate 2) put down all of your buildings/floors in a new location 3) confirm relocation by interacting with castle heart. If you have done it correctly you should be able to see your buildings materialise.
If you still have some issues check the video how I have done it there:

I'm not trying to relocate the castle, just the castle heart.

Sorry, I'm more confused after reading your answer than I was before. How do you mean, I "can't have my castle heart disconnected from your tiles like that?"

If someone could explain the process step by step, that is what I'm asking for.

I have a castle set up, with a castle heart in a place I don't want it to be. I have plenty of spare space in the territory space of the castle which I have not built into yet.

How do I move the castle heart? I don't see any option to "pick up" the existing castle heart as you mentioned.

EDIT: Ok I missed the option to move heart when selecting the original completely. Seen it now, thanks.

Okay I'm trying to clear thinghs up for you.
You can just go into the build mode left click on your castle heart and move it onto another tile in your castle, which has to be adjacent to another castle tile. So you cannot move your heart outside of your existing building to a new spot on the same plot without having claimed that territory with any type of tile that is a castle tile(includes special floors like library, tailor, workshop, etc).

You don't need the "relocate castle heart" (green ish heart next to the original one in the menu) to move your existing castle heart on the same plot.

you only need the move castle heart if you want to go on another building plot to completely move all your castle structures.

Did did clear thinghs up for you ?

I had missed the move option originally, so simple as it turns out but when you miss something, you miss it. You answered the question perfectly, thank you.

I'm glad that I could help :D no worries, the game doesn't exactly explain some important thinghs. I had to ask in the forums myself, because I thought there would be raids on my castle and that the location matters in a sense of the biome. (apperentely it doesn't)

if you crank your castles up to 5 in the settings you have enough outposts in each important area.

Careful moving it during the day, there will be bare ground underneath which can cause your roof to disappear sending you scrambling for shade.

Heh, thanks for the heads up. I've already done stupid stuff like this already!
