I usually buy seeds or books I don't have. Seeds, once planted, keep sprouting, so nice getting cotton, Plaguebriar, Ghost Shrooms and others without needing to leave the castle.

I do like to buy fish as well, as I hate fishing, and they are nice to feed prisioners.

And there is a vendor a Goldun coin vendor in Gloomrot that sells 4 different weapon books, on rotation, so if looking for a weapon, it's the better place to look. Silverlight vendors I beleive are armor only.

+1 for seeds, it is up to you to decide if say a cotton seed/ghost shroom seed (or two) is more useful than a weapon or armour book at that stage, and similar for other types. The first seed or two are critical IMHO, after that, not so much. Also remember that they take time to grow, so if you aren't on a public/similar server that runs 24/7 only logged in game time makes them grow, depending on your server settings.

2nd and only endgame usage is fish. Buy every fish when near a silver/copper vendor, either melt to fish bone or feed a prisoner. TBH I stopped picking them up long ago and they tend to be the first thing ditched if I need more inventory.

As far as usage, I'd agree that buying books for research is a first priority (and saving any paper / scrolls / etc until *after* you've acquired most of those books).

I'd agree with Rafein regarding fish - while the fishing mechanic is simple, it yields a relatively pitiful amount of fish for your time, which makes purchasing them instead my second priority. But then I take bleeding prisoners a bit seriously, and fish have limited usefulness beyond that, so maybe don't worry about this if you aren't doing much with prisoners.

Third priority - specifically regarding copper coins, prior act 3 - buy the axe and mace, and salvage them; turning 72 copper coins into 48 silver coins is a great trade during act 2, imo.

Fourth priority ... seeds, i guess? - maybe if you needed a specific flower, or want to perfect your garden, but I'm not sure i've ever bought any, aside from the act 3 stuff; shrooms, briar, but *not* grapes. Most varieties have specific places to harvest, and you generally get a fair number of seeds from doing so.

What *not* to buy: cosmetics (unless you're in a multiplayer game and need to look perty), potions (unless you lack the resources to craft it and are in an emergent situation), gems (ditto), and general goods that can *easily* be farmed.

Key research texts are first, sometimes items for key weapons or armor if I have a glut of coins, seeds if needed, and fish in the long term. You can also get a few snazzy capes from the Treasure Hunter's shop in the western part of Gloomrot North.

Also, a good way to spend copper coins once you've gotten all the recipes and seeds you need is buying Lumberjack axes and Miner's maces, since you can salvage them into 12 silver coins each. A pretty nice boost for when you unlock the ability to trade in Dunley.

Not super viable. But you could pull a fast one in Silverlight if you are lucky
If you scavange around in silverlight as a human and find enough coins (Its 400 or 600~)
You can buy the third tier of Cloaks from the Vendor there.

Giving you some more Resistance and Health well before you can even craft it.

But its not super viable since the cloaks seems to be quite rare for the Vendor to sell sadly. But I managed to do it (Mainly because we are a 4man and its hard to find time when everyone can play, so when not everyone is online its just farming various stuff in prep for Bosses/Progression)
