we need the ability to melt coins

I don't know about you guys, but in endgame you have a lot of coins lying around in the chest, you don't have anywhere to put them, you don't need to collect them. Basically I just throw them away as waste. It would be logical, when we have the ability to print coins, we should have the ability to melt them down.

Well, the Silver Coins can be converted to Goldsun Coins with an Advanced Furnace. This can help you purchase specific techs in the Arcaneum, both in Silverlight Hills Market District and with the Bounty Hunter's Camp. The Bounty Hunter also sells a few premium capes if you don't mind throwing coins his way.

In theory you can buy generic material from the merchants with them, but that's more effort than it's worth.

Most things reach a point where they aren't needed though. Look at research items.

I have to agree with this: making the Goldsum Coins is expensive and I'd much rather use the gold for other stuff, the price of the Athaneum books is really high, so I end up chopping trees for the sawdust, getting grass, grind flowers for pollen, make paper, make thread, make scrolls, make schematics. Cheaper than buying books, if a bit time consuming, but I do also send my guys out to bring home some schematics too, got nearly everything researched: if I can't find it I will make it.
