so will the constant resetting of progress continue?
title.

early access has ended. that excuse is gone now.

yet i just read that the next update will wipe all progress AGAIN thus entirely defeating the point of even bothering to farm high tier weapons as it just takes ages only for that effort to be reduced to nothing anyway.

is this gonna continue going forward for this game? i am not a fan of games who constantly wipe. i get that for pvp servers and stuff but for singleplayer or pve servers it literally defeats the point for me.

the overhaul and changes to systems i read about comeing up is something i would have expected during early access. not after 1.0. especially not SO LONG after 1.0.

so will this continue for good? did the devs ever speak about this or got asked about it before? as if they keep wipeing i would highly suggest to greatly reduce the effort it takes to obtain lategame weapons as its simply not justified under such circumstances.

It's really not an issue, though in principle yes wiping saves in a post SEA game is not the coolest thing to do. But it is an unfortunate side effect of the way they've set the game up. Namely, that any changes to the map are going to invalidate older saves in any new version.
They quote single player on the store page and I understand the game was made with PvP in mind but they really should add a proper offline single player mode .....The map change thing makes sense enough but still really this is not a single player game as when im playing I

A. cant pause the game for any reason
B. I am always online when playing

You can play in offline mode if you set up a private game (you don't have to make a dedicated server if you don't want to).

Also you can skip resetting your game after a big update, but this can lead to bugs/glitches.

The only servers with mandatory wipes are official ones.

I mean we can debate what "single player" really means, but yes it is effectively always online single player. Not ideal, I agree, but it's *kinda* nice that you can get your friends to drop in at any time if you want.

Interesting I had no idea this should be explained somewhere so people know lol

Also just my 2 cents it should default to a offline single player server if thats what your setting up for not the other way around .....just my thought

Q: Will there be a forced wipe once the announced content releases?

A: Jeremy Bearson — Yup! It'll involve map changes and other deeper changes that require a new map to take effect, so if you want to play on the new stuff you need to update and generate a new map.

It is unacceptable for a game out of early access. Hopefully, this will be their last major update. They had three planned major updates since EA. This would make it the third.

Updates :
1.) Gloomrot
2.) Official 1.0 Release
3.) Planned But Not Defined - Updated

Three Planned Updates :
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1604030/view/3686797191080219894?l=english

I lost 300+ hours. When I asked discussions when it was going to be safe to play due to incompatible saves, I was told about the 1.0 release by a V Rising moderator who marked his post as the answer to my topic discussion. I started a new game during the official release.

It's a great game. They just need to get it together.

You'll still be able to play your old save by reverting to a previous version but in order to play the new content update, you'll have to start over.

Play Old Incompatible Saves :
Right-Click V Rising > Properties > Betas > Beta Participation > Select Game Version

The Cloud And Local Saves Can Be Found :
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios

%appdata%\..\LocalLow\
( copy/paste that line in your file explorer and hit enter )

Locate Stunlock Studios Folder > Copy & Paste Stunlock Studio Folder To A Safe Location

Just ignore Yumeko, a known PVP troll.

LAN should be selected when you are online but you want the server to remain offline. It creates a local area network server versus one that is shared publicly. You can also select LAN when playing completely offline with steam in offline mode.

While Offline ( Not Connected To The Internet ) :

Go In Offline Mode With Steam > Start Game > Click Load Game >

Click On Game Or World Name > Click LAN Server > Click Host Game

When playing with a friend over the internet, LAN should not be selected.

thank you for this post. very informative. i know about old saves but this isnt "7 years to early access" so i am not interresting it playing outdated saves on this game. but your post gave an answer to my question.
so this MIGHT be the last wipe. or not....

like if they wanna keep updateing like this they should start changing thier map generation to allow for changes retroactively really. that new update content is something i expected to see IN early access. not OUT of it.
Xero Jan 21 @ 4:50pm
You're welcome. I agree. Yes, hopefully, this will be their last major update that causes incompatible saves. I know I won't play anymore till they promise players progress, time and effort won't be affected by future updates. Which I plan to ask in discord when the new update hits.

Resetting the map? I play single-player couldn't there be a way to save my castle and stuff like the heart relocation? Just beat Big D for the first time recently.
To be fair, you don't need all that farming when you can run admin and get materials or even the weapons. . . so the wipe doesn't really affect you lol unless you like super grinder and etc

Sadly, not at this time. Until they finalize the world map and game mechanics so incompatible saves will be a thing of the past with future updates.

Unless you're someone like me who always plays on the hardest difficulty possible in games and never use console commands, modify default settings, mod or cheat.
