A: Jeremy Bearson — Yup! It'll involve map changes and other deeper changes that require a new map to take effect, so if you want to play on the new stuff you need to update and generate a new map.
If you want a direct response, you can just join V Rising Official discord - you'll get faster answer there.
If this is going to be how it is for PVE players every update, even after early access, they'll lose their PVE player-base population. This just makes me not want to play anymore. My second playthrough, even after completing it, was 300+ hours. What's the point in playing if nothing you do matters.
They should have thought about a player profile transfer like Valheim has, where you can take your player from server to server for PVE players' sake before wasting their time.
You have to love how nonchalant that answer was given. Like working on a piece of art for 300+ hours and someone just comes up and crushes it up and stomps on it, whistling while walking away. No excuses after full release.
I'll play their update providing they promise no more incompatible saves ever in the future. PVE players treat the game like its real life and put forth time and effort. We can only take so much. The review changed for now.
I agree. IIRC, they said something about no more wipes after the 1.0 release. This is such a bummer. I hope they can still do something about this since there is still a lot of time before the release next year.
I dunno, man. This kind of attitude strikes me as an overreaction - and a severe one, at that. You're really gonna deny yourself an opportunity for a new experience with a major update because you're being asked to start anew?
Nothing about video games is permanent. This is all ephemeral; time-wasting experiences meant to provide us a little entertainment we elect to engage in. I only play this PvE, too, but if you want to think about this in terms of art, then you should consider thinking about it in terms of the sand mandalas Buddhists will sometimes create in the course of meditating on impermanence. Once finished with their design, they're wiped away, and they begin again on something different, and often better by virtue of the prior experience.
Seems to me it'd be better to take that tack instead of treating an old save file like an anchor chained around your neck.
My original thoughts were they had the core map and game mechanics finalized during the official release and if any additions were to come thereafter, it would no longer affect players' saves. Even with a new area where no one has castle plots.
What were the reminders of backing up your saves manually if it was going to be incompatible anyway?

You'll still be able to play your old save by reverting to a previous version but in order to play the new content update, you'll have to start over.
Play Old Incompatible Saves :
Right-Click V Rising > Properties > Betas > Beta Participation > Select Game Version
This is very sad, if i need to start over again i won't play this game anymore =/
i have a few private saves, and some on public servers. i hated always starting over but now that i have done it so much, my castle and perspective change for the better every play through.
i started over again locally just so i can make sure i'm as ready as can be when the dlc drops.
