So, how do we feel about materials and teleporting?
I usually like to play the game in an... 'intended' manner? You know, stick with the original rules and all that. But something about the materials just ends up making me enjoy the game less, rather than what I imagine the intended thing is where you consider the place of your castle, your routes to and from, so on?

I'm not asking 'am I justified in this', I'm playing it the way I want to have fun. I was wondering how other people feel about the mechanic? I imagine it's more important for something like PvP, but I don't really do that either!

If I was playing on a PvP server, I'd see it as changing the overall purpose for the setting. In that situation, getting your haul of ill-gotten gains back to base is part of the experience.

In a PvE setting, it's highly unlikely that anything will stop you from getting back to base, which means the only reason to disallow teleporting of materials is to waste the player's time. In that case, I would change the setting.

Adding to this, sorta-kinda:

I know it's supposed to be for pvp purposes but how on earth does limiting teleportation with certain materials balance pvp?

It'd be really cool to get an explanation on this from anyone (i'll even take game development speculation) because i'm stumped lol

I'd imagine it's something to do with the fact that vampires that aren't allied can attack eachother. You having to walk back to your home, or ride back, whatever, means you're vulnerable to player attack. If a player kills you, they get to nick allyour ♥♥♥♥. This also means you can mug random players for materials, too. Something along those lines?

(this is how I feel about Valheim. I really want to work around the fact you can't transport materials through portals, like metals, but god is it nothing but a time waster in practise.)

I think it's fine. I like having a reason to use my loyal horse. I'm also super stubborn about my castle and refuse to relocate ever, so I'm constantly riding to farbane woods from the various ends of the earth. It isn't that bad. couple minutes tops pretty much no matter where you are.

That being said, I also play solo, and crank up drop and refine rates to max so I have to do as little grinding as possible. Maybe I'd feel different if I played in public servers.

I play PVE private servers only. I also like to play games the way they were meant to be played with no edited server settings. There are cave systems that, once you understand where they lead to, can benefit you early on in the game.

And like Livvie Goat mentioned, that is what makes horses so convenient. You also unlock a wrangler potion so that also increases your speed.

You'll later unlock new abilities that you'll find rewarding to help traverse the world of Vardoran.
Yeah, see, I do use horses and the cave systems when I have the setting *on* It's just...
I find it needlessly tedious?

That's the beauty of adding server settings. The more in-game options you can choose from makes the player-based population happy. I love it even though I don't touch it. I know it's there and that I don't have to use mods or console commands to work around it.

Plus, server settings can give players a unique experience. Whether it's for convenience, expansion or even creating a difficulty beyond brutal.

I've never played on a PVP server.. 0 interest.. but all the PVE servers I've played on have this disabled so we CAN teleport with mats. The game is already a decent grind enough as is.. don't need to add more.

my only issue is the BS RNG whe nyou want a specific affix for your legendary and it is just a random trash one.

they are going to address that in the next update.. they will have a system where you can combine 2 items together and pick the 3 traits you want. Which is really cool.

Aye.

If you're just looking for a sample of community votes to tally, put me down for 'turns it off in PvE'.

Being effectively forced to use the horse to haul resources can be an amusing novelty for a while but as was said, there's very little that can actually prevent you from reaching your destination so the setting basically just prolongs the resource grind without adding any notable challenge or compelling gameplay (and since you brought it up, yes, I also felt the same way about Valheim). Besides, in my case, I get plenty of travel-time on the horse as-is.

PvP, yes, it has an obvious purpose. I completely understand why people leave it on there. For PvE though, I left it on for a while but ultimately, just found it to be an annoying waste of time.
