Why can't I build a damn roof?
first off, I'm playing a Vampire....

just wanted to get that out of the way, let's get that clear just in case no one knows, not even the developers, but they should know shouldn't they? Sure they do.

What kind of dumb as hell Vampire is going to build his own sunshine cage out of 'Palisade Walls' with NO ROOF, so he can be cooked within the confines of it? That makes no sense. Why can't a Vampire live in a cave? Why not the sewer of a big city, you know, where all the PEOPLE LIVE so he or she can feast?

Or how about letting me build a roof over my 'palisade wall', sure looks like it could hold a roof.

As long as your castle is enclosed with walls and doors the roof will apply itself. You can't visually see it while inside the castle but if everything is right, you will see the interior darken. Hopefully this info helps you.

At the start your building options are limited, the initial walls are just there to keep the mobs away from you while you get sorted - you're supposed to use the mist brazier to generate cover for yourself during the day, which is fueled by bones - then build up from there.

the mist brazier, thanks for the tip.

do you not know what a palisade is ???? they do not have roofs, castles do

Palisade is a just a wooden fence, so you don't get roof over it.
Use the mist brazier untill you can build a stone walls (castle) that actually get a roof.

This is where you draw the line? This is what bothers you? Being a vampire laborer doest? I hate to break it to you but vampires doesn't exist, and this isn't a book, it's a game.

Just a small correction, but you also need floors before the roof is applied. Also, the exterior garden floors like grass and cobblestone don't count.

you can put a roof on a palisade, sure you can.

Because caves are damp and bears ruin the furniture. Sewers are damp and stinky and there's always a chance that an Italian restaurant will open up on the street above you.

Even vampires have standards you know.

Dude, advance on the tutorial, do you see those letters on the top left corner? I know they might be some big words in there and it might be difficult for you, but if you read them carefully the game will guide you and eventually you will be able to build floors and castle walls. And BOOM, roofs will appear and you will be protected from the sun.
