And I think thats it - those are just the ones i host, (or hosted in the past) on my private servers setup on my network at home. I'm sure there are more games you can setup and run a private server without having to rent out server space from a subscription service.
V rising is kind of a mixed bag and doesn't have native support for Linux, but can still be ran with emulation software at the cost of performance or stability - but it can still be done if you know what you're doing.
OK so you have your own setup.. so does my friend who has Linux and yes we have played V-rising along with most of the other games you mentioned on his server-room with whatever he had to do to make it work.
My question was for the OP. Who claims online dedi servers are free which is only true if like you or my friend they host their own. You can not just magically get a free server for any game you listed.. so I completely understand your response but I'm curious what his will be.
You did ask the OP, but you also replied to a post on the internet, for everybody to see and this is a forum where everyone can reply.
but to add to your point - the game won't be free, and neither will any of the infrastructure (modem, internet, router, physical machine for the server, etc.) but the server files for the games that I listed are free for everyone and you don't have to own the game to get it to run. It does make testing a lot easier if you own the game though.
You are right. Cheers.
You don't. You rent a server to have someone host it for you - You can absolutely host a server from within the game, or using the dedicated server tool included with the game.
You do not need to pay for your own server. Otherwise it would not be your own.
