For those having trouble with triggers not working for various functions when playing with a controller.
I was getting very frustrated and trying a lot of different things none of which worked until I disconnected my 8bitdo controller and connected my XBox Controller. Everything worked as intended and perfectly from that point on. If you are having similar issues I'd be willing to bet you are using a third-party controller. I don't see why it should matter since Steam Deck basically treats the 8bitdo like an Xbox controller and this is probably something the developer can and should fix. But this is the workaround if you want to play with a controller.

Oh, for the record, I am playing on Steam Deck, docked on m y TV. Other than the controller issues the game runs great at 1080 on default Proton. It did stutter and freeze on me after about 3 hours. so this will require some more testing.

Okay, so I take it back. After the game crashed I took a break to eat something and now when I start it back up it's having the same issue with the Xbox controller. Left Trigger does not work for dismantling in construction mode or for your left trigger weapon skill. Also, camera rotation is very slow and adjusting the sensitivity slider has no effect.

This is definitely a developer problem and should really be fixed. Otherwise, remove the "controller support" tag form the store page because it is demonstrably false.

Please let us know when this gets fixed because as it is right now, I can't play the game I want to play it.

So my wife was having this same problem on our Deck.

The workaround that I found that seems to work consistently is to 'reorder controllers' in the steam input UI. Ensuring the Steam Deck controller is first.

1. Log into game
2. Press steam button
3. Navigate to 'controller settings'
4. Inside controller settings, navigate to 'reorder controllers'
5. Arrange controllers so that the STEAM DECK controller is FIRST.
6. Left trigger should now act as expected.

I have no idea why this bug exists. It doesn't happen with my Duel Sense Edge so its potentially something to do with how the devs have implemented the Xbox controllers API.

Anyway. Hopefully this helps you out!

Sweet baby jesus, THANK YOU!
I would have never even thought to try this. Yes this worked for me. The only remaining issue is that right trigger rotating the camera is dreadfully slow. But at least the game is now playable. Thanks again.

No problem!

It's interesting that the right trigger camera rotation is still slow for you. When I did it the camera rotation speed increased to what I would expect it to be in both directions.

I'm assuming that you have increased/decreased the camera sensitivity in game?

It might be worth also mapping the 'soft pull' triggers in steam input to left and right trigger as well?
