It's definitely a much-needed setting to be put back into the game.
At the beginning it was the only annoying downside of playing on a local save that the servant hunt missions and servant conversion timers were tied to the in game time and if you stopped playing it stopped progressing.
During e.a. the devs changed it that these timers are using your system time. So even with a local save they progress even if you don't play.
And it is still working like that. So those are not game time timers but IRL timers.
If it doesn't work like that for you, you maybe changed some settings during game creation.
(can't remember but there was such an option i think when creating a new game)
If you find 24h too long....well..always remember that most people don't play these games every day from morning till middle of the night.
If you play solo, you can skip it entirely by disconnecting your PC from the net, moving your PC time 24 hours forward, and launching the game again. It's best to disable cloud saving for the time being because disconnecing from the Internet could cause sync issues.
>"have you tried not playing the game for a while"
whenever i feel worthless i'll remind myself of these replies
They only work "well" if you play for a couple of hours at a time and would spend most of that time grinding on the default gather rates rather than bagging bosses. But even then the rewards for time doesn't seem to match up without tweaking the rates.
On the bright side they don't seem to be the best option for getting fish as I've been getting far more drop from containers and mobs that before 1.0.
Unless OP is a true vampire gamer, doesn't sleep, and actually intends to play the game 24/7.
