How is it from a solo stand point?
I have no friends, don't tell me to make more, and have read that playing this solo is a little dull, and bosses can be pretty annoying as it seems like it's not balanced from solo to coop? (boss battles that is) Or am I wrong in saying that?

I've heard some people complain that the bosses aren't scaled for solo play. Then I remember that I've played through the entire game 3 times solo and know that it's absolutely viable for solo play.

And if you're struggling, there's an easier difficulty, and server settings to increase your health and damage. Customize the game to your ideal comfort/challenge desired.

Definitely doable solo on medium difficulty, played 80hrs 2 years ago in early access back then and never really struggled, it was ideal. Played single-player, no co-op.

Nowadays I'm playing on a PvE-only server, brutal difficulty, mostly doable solo but had help with some bosses. Since I enjoy building a lot I am content with collecting materials on my own and crafting and can do without a clan, at least at this point. If you would play on a PvE-only server, say on medium difficulty, and find yourself to struggle against some boss, you can ask others for help then, otherwise in my experience, it's fairly doable by yourself.

Depends entirely on the difficulty, though.

I'm having fun solo.
You can tweak a lot of the setting as well, but you might have to go into the config text file for some of it.

Boss battles can be a bit challenging sometimes, but you can definitely beat them with some clever use of spells.

Normal's pretty straightforward as far as difficulty goes. On the other side of the coin, Brutal difficulty is exactly what it says on the tin and intended for people who have experience with the game, not a warning to be brushed off by the foolish tryhard.

About 2 to 4 hours on PvE, and 120 hours played on solo. Personally, solo is the one to play.
The game is far more immersive and fun solo. Not only that when you play solo you can tweak the sever settings to your hearts content making the game tailored for yourself.
Don't worry about boss battles. Just don't rush, make sure your around their level before taking them on. You can go test a boss and see how hard they are going to be. If the boss seems a bit to OP for you, run away and come back another day. Also some, most, all the bosses can be cheesed in some way, or at least they use to be.
I'm rubbish at combat in VR and I can manage them.

The one big thing that put me off playing more PvE was having other players castles spoiling the landscape.

it's fine.

Surprisingly immersive and fun for a game seaming designed around multiplayer. It’s not perfect but what is.

in a private game solo you can tweak the settings to make up for the lack of other players. Increasing your own damage and health as well as the amount of materials gained really helps alleviate the pain playing solo for these types of games

Yes, you are.

Bosses are killed solo.
On “normal” no problem, on “brutal” with straight arms.
And I don’t know what could be boring if from a certain stage (gaining the throne) resources are farmed by minions, and many bosses are interesting for their tactics, to which you need to find the key.

The only thing I'd say that's actually somewhat harder solo is the "world" bosses, other than that, everything can be done solo dolo.
