I also am on Steam Deck, docked to my TV. I tried this and it made no difference. I was using an 8bitduo. When I switched to Xbone controller it worked perfectly for one session. The game froze after about three hours and I had to hard reset the Deck. Ever since then the LT problem exists with both controllers, regardless of Steam Input settings.
This is most differently a glitch and a developer issue that they really should fix if they are going to list controller support on the their store page.
As this is a proton related issue, I don't know who is responsible for fixing it, Valve or the game developer. Since they seem to want the game to be Steam Deck compatible, it seems like it's their problem. All I know is this issue is preventing me from playing the game the way I want to play it; on the TV, kicked back in my chair on easy mode so it's basically a castle building simulator. I even paid for the Castlevania dlc just to play through the game again (I've been on board since the start of EA).
I realize the Steam Deck audience is niche but I really hope someone from Stunlock is paying attention. Having said all that, I think they did a bang up job converting the game to controller. I actually prefer playing with controller and even am fine with the Y+triggers for camera rotation. Some additional options might be nice but what they've done is outstanding. I just need it to, you know, work on my Steam Deck as advertised.
All I know for sure is I'm glad I had a couple of sick days at home to troubleshoot this because if I had spent what precious little free time I have trying to figure this out I'd be mighty upset.
I can get away with not using the secondary melee but not being able to delete the buildings walls etc is a complete bummer hopefully a fix will be out soon.
I'm surprised at the ps5 controller not working since it's due to be released on the ps5 hopefully fingers crossed someone notices and fixes this.
I swapped the LT and RB effects.
This fixed my issue using the PS5 controller and I hope it helps.
