Legendary (orange) weapons

Who drops them?

I'm talking orange 30 level weapons, not purple 30 level weapons for Greater Stygian Shards.

I`m at about 15 vendor purchases and got one orange. (the first time i bought pistols they turned orange upon purchase)
It seems like incursion bosses refuse to drop weapons for me. (the 80+ones)

As the vendor has a supply of 20 weapons each i wonder if its something like 2 out of those 20 will be orange or if any purchase has the same chance of turning upon purchase.

If its the former it would be best to save up to 20 pulls >_<

I was super lucky to get orange Scythe on my first vendor purchase.
Other than that, in our current brutal playthrough, we got 1 Legendary Axe and 1 Scythe as a drop from the rift bosses. We didn't do much of those but I'd say we did about 20 rifts together.

orange tier weapon drop from both Primal soul and shard break after beating Primal soul during rift incursion II. Purchasing purple item from vendor also give you chances to get Orange as well

Im grateful yet disappointed there's no legendary for my preferred weapon+school.

On one hand I don't have to worry about the endless grind for one... On the other hand I'll literally never have a fulfilling legendary drop.

I purchased a purple lvl30 shattered scythe for 1500 greater shards from the vendor and received Mortira's Lament Legendary Scythe... Second purchase from vendor lol. I was very surprised.

Purples have random stats so maybe a purple can be better as legendary?

Yes and no.

My understanding is, from *any source* of purple shards, there is a *small chance* that it'll be orange instead - blue shards are irrelevant. So far, it would seem that we've found at least three *sources*; the mortium merchant trading for greater stygian shards, defeating Primal Blood Souls (tier 2 rift incursion boss), and tier 2 rifts themselves upon being destroyed. Presumably, any of these can potentially yield a orange shard, but the odds seem to be fairly low (~5-10%), and the latter two sources only have a *chance* of providing a purple shard in the first place.

I've never seen or otherwise heard of this happening - a change from purple to orange occurring at the ancestral forge. You sure you aren't just inputting orange shards?

Orange stats and effects are fixed, and practically 'maxed', so no, a purple likely won't roll better stats, but a purple might roll a different attribute / effect, which may be better for your specific playstyle / tactics. Just depends...

Merchant is the highest chance to get them.

Tier 2 rifts have them as rare drops.

Just had an odd thing happen; during Tier 2 rift timer, I purchased some purple slasher shards from the northern vendor. With the shards in my inventory I cleared a Tier 2 raid (the one right next to the vendor). After the raid my purple slasher shards turned orange. Not sure how all this plays into what the devs designed but it worked for me this once.

Nice necro, anyway either you didn't notice or a visual bug/desynch. They don't change colour, you might have had one drop from the rift.
