how do you beat frostmaw?
I've been trying all morning and I'm on the verge of quitting the game. I was gonna buy the DLCs but I just don't feel like doing it anymore... Cooldowns on dodges are insane when fighting against bosses that spam skills.
I am on item lvl 62 rn and I can't fight this thing, It shoots volleys of 3 ice balls that freeze you for 3 seconds, you dodge the first volley and then it shoots another 3. I tried using the chaos dodge but the thing seems to know that I can cast it a second time... Any tips on how to beat it? It's on brutal diff.

You can pull him close to the arctic bears and they will attack him if his aoe attacks hits them. It was by accident for me but they bears took him on in the middle of the fight and they tanked him for me they even managed to do decent damage to him=D

Same thing happened with Cassius fight, in the middle of it a paladin and his crew came by and pretty much whopped him for me lol

Use a weapon that has a dodge skill like greatsword or pistols. He charges three times so let your dash run out to keep invisibility, one dash should allow you to dodge at least two charges. After that just use the dodge skill to buffer the dash cooldown.

Then stop using dodge - thats a cheese. Face tank everything or you are cheesing.
Also spells are cheese to since you can shoot them from distance. Don't do that too.
Equip bone sword and smack him till he is dead. Only one real way to beat him.
PS also he is not a Boss. Bosses have dedicated rooms or locations. Those wandering are simple elites or rares or whatever you call them. They are not even close to challenge.
Abusing the fact that ai is too dumb to get around you running in circles around a rock is cheese. Stop using false equivalence.

You are not really getting it. The Ai isn't dumb, the game hinges on line of sight for you and the enemy. An enemy can't attack or succeed if they can't see you. This isn't a cheese. It's a strat and one that is very usable on alot of the roaming bosses to get time to heal, reposition, to wait spell cds.

Skeletons tend to help here and Barrier spells can help if you have trouble avoiding it's projectiles. Keep your distance and save Barrier for key moments. Weapon can be anything on your preferences.

Frostmaw is a pain, I ended up using chaos volley + ward of the damned with a slasher. My strategy was attack with chaos volley, whe he attacks me i use ward of the damned, and keep trying to pull distance between him and me, if both my dash and ward is on cooldown, I'd use slasher E to stall a bit until my dash and ward is ready again before i keep pelting him with chaos volley. Slasher Q can also be used as a dash as well in an emergency as it does have iframe. If you're comfortable switching weapons you can use bow or crossbow to attack him while chaos volley is on cooldown and switch back to slasher when you have to stall a bit for ur defensive cooldowns to come back.

Also here's another tip, the general store in dunley sometimes sell hardened leather, which you can buy to upgrade ur armor, cost quite a bit to grind it out, but it'll help.

Also make sure youre doing wide circles and not just backpedaling because he will tether back to his route if you pull him too far and he will get all his hp back

Build a castle nearby and fill it with servants with gear up to level 57 or so. Grab a couple of nuns, paladin, a cleric and lightweaver. You grab the paladin and lightweavers in the new soon patrolling and fighting. Cleric can be shot at with range and subdued.

Once frostmaw patrols near your temp castle lure it to the servants and watch it get destroyed.
loooool

After a few attempts i managed to get him with shield of the damned and death knight ..probably would have been easier with chaos ult though

I've killed him on Brutal while under level... that said he is not fun. I have 2 strategies.
Ranged.
- Use longbow and a 70%+ scholar V Blood. longbow because it out ranges his nova and gives you more reaction time to side step his 3 ice bolts. DO NOT use veil on ice bolt evasion. Side step the ice bolts always. Save veil for the real BS like his dash or laser beam.
Spells. Condemn skeleton bolts, BALL LIGHTNING (it is the best spell in the game i swear), and summon skeletal army for your ult. The skeletons absorb much of his BS. LUCK.
Melee.
- This works on most bosses. Turn off the Vrising soundtrack in your settings menu. Go to youtube or spotify and look up Mick Gordon "BFG Division". Ready this song to play when you are about to fight the boss. Put on your angry face.
- - - Axes. Power Surge. Blood Rage. All the drugs (I mean uh, potions that enhance damage) and your choice of brute or rogue blood. Critical boosting armour.
Some bosses are a dps race and the axes are a number cruncher when you stack ATK speed.

... An old strategy used to be you could fight him on the road ramps or castle bluffs and by jumping up n down you could evade him. Do not try this, it will break the boss and reset him.

I finally gave up trying to do Frostmaw the right way. Instead, I bought the Loggers's axes and Miner's Picks from the Shady Dealers in Farbane, broke them down into silver coins (12 each), then bought 24 pieces of Thick Leather from the Goods Dealer in Dunley at 6sp per piece, upgraded my armor to Tier 6 went back and stomped Frostmaw's face in (Army of Dead, Ward of Dead, Chaos Volley, Merciless Iron Reaper).
Felt truly satisfying. BTW _ I did try to farm the Cursed Woods like an earlier posted said, but only Pristine Leather drops there.
Hope this helps!

frostmaw is input reading for his ice projectiles. move to 1 side (dont use veil) and instantly turn and repeat 3 times. frostmaw is still one of the most bs bosses in this game sadly even in 1.0 due to the freeze on any hit he does. he is way too nimble and fast for a boss of his size aswell. keep a rock between him and you it helps to avoid some of his bs attacks. and block his icebeam attack. when he dashes use your dodge. you can use a ward spell aswell when he does projectiles to get some skeletons out each time to distract him a bit.

if all else fails come back later with better gear. most bosses have very fair patterns and move you just gotta learn a bit. but he remains ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ no matter how often i fight him.

I'm a bit confused - are those posts about a wandering giant, or the ogre in the cave?
