Can I change to Brutal after starting a server?
Heyo, I already started a Private PVE server to play with my friends, but we are thinking about switching to Brutal difficulty. I know many other settings can be changed in-game, in the Load Game screen, as well as editing the Server Config file. But changing the difficulty there to Brutal doesn't seem to have changed That, in specific.

I read something about trying to create a new server and just porting the save to the new server, with the correct settings, but I was wondering if there was any other more recommended way of making this change?

You can change difficulty from the ESC menu, it's the server settings themselves that get set in stone at creation, and unless you have really good knowledge on how to edit save system files, you can't edit them otherwise.

If that doesn't work, then it's probably bugged and will require a patch.

Changing settings is much easier with this update. At the main menu, click Load Game, choose your server, then Edit Settings.

Oh, they finally let you do that now? Good to know. Hope they made sure it works for real lol.

Just edit the game settings file in saves. U can change a ton of stuff there. Just make a copy and put it in a seperate folder in case u Bork the game

Well I switch my private game to brutal, get the level as intended on the boss and all but no achievement from it. So do I have to kill him let him respawn and rekill him? Do he keep its state of Normal difficulty even though you switch difficulty?

Switching difficulties disables achievements sadly

It didn't for me.

We played from the start on Brutal.

I needed to make a settings change, so I made it from the Load Game menu.

Changing any settings causes the game to reload in normal mode. This forces me to use "change difficulty" to set it back to Brutal. It makes you restart the server to apply this.

The Act 1 Brutal achievement still unlocked at the end of Act 1.

So whatever the game uses to track if you play in Brutal isn't broken by using the change difficulty button. It may be linked to killing an enemy or something else while not in Brutal mode.

Btw, I had to investigate a bit for this myself so I may as well post it publicly just in case someone needs it;

If you have a dedicated server and your service doesn't have a dedicated "Brutal difficulty" option for the settings, just go into your configuration archives, open ServerHostSettings.json and insert the line(With the quotes);
"GameDifficultyPreset": "Difficulty_Brutal",

Make sure it's a new line, you can put in anywhere, here's an example;
"AutoSaveInterval": 9000,
"GameDifficultyPreset": "Difficulty_Brutal",
"GameSettingsPreset": "",

And that's it.

PS: About progress, I think you need to beat every boss in ACT 1 in brutal so you get the achievement.
