Servants only good for pvp?

Playing a sp game, the servants just wander around the castle doing nothing. Are they only good to defend it on pvp servers?

Once you unlock the throne, you can send them out on missions to gather resources to locations you've visited before.

You can send them out on expeditions for loot once you build your throne

You have your own Philip J. Fry. Delivery Boys. They will risk their corpses to go get stuff for you, no unionizing or strikes or no complaints. If they don't deliver....... you know what to do :D

They are the best thing for getting resources.. once you unlock the throne and outfit them they can go do missions for loot. This is how I get all my fish for my prisoners.

Unless they changed something since alpha release even in gold gear the only way they're good in pvp is if you have a relatively small area filled to the brim with those shielded stun boys from Holy biome. But if the person raiding you has end game gear and shard buffs npc's don't stand a chance without you there to back them up. Hell I only see more player power in the game since alpha release so my guess is npc will not successfully raid defense while you are offline even against a solo raider.
