if you have trouble dominating your enemies might not be enough weakened
one can certainly dominate peasent from full life
but if you struggle with other enemies, give them a few whacks before, maybe to the point of making them a good feeding victim

I tried the dominate human on Succubus and that worked. It did not worked for the Hand of Dracula, so I assumed it does not work for others as well. My bad.

tbf, I am not sure if there *might* be humanoid mobs out there that cant be dominated

but punching them helped me one or two times alread

Well you cannot dominate a animal, or mutant, or nightmare(in draculian region). Does not matter how much health they have, the spell does not stick to them.
