You do not need internet to play this game after you downloaded it for private hosting. Connection issues with private hosting have nothing to do with internet it is an issue with the server configuration not being read or server not starting correctly.
Here is playing with firewall blocked for all traffic to other sources

Here is playing with Steam and the entire internet offline.

I am now 17 years on steam, verifying the files was the first thing I did ^^ But since the update yesterday I did not have it happen once, so whatever it was, the update sorted it out. Maybe because steam-cloud wanted to use my old savefile and that screwed the Game up somehow... No Idea... Just glad it works now
Same... It was right at the beginning of my playthrough (first 3.5h), so I was still more focused on gathering resources instead of fighting... If this would have happend during a boss fight and i logged back in to a dead character, I think my Keyboard and screen would have felt that :D
This fix solved it for me. It did make me redo the time, date, settings exc. But for some reason this is what solved the issue for me. No idea what about that is causing the issue but it solved it for me.
The game probably updated and the server hadn't updated yet.
I tried verifying steam files. Tried resyncing my computer clock. Restarting steam, restarting computer. None of it works... until... randomly I'll try a few hours later and I can connect just fine.
Also oddly enough, I'll be able to connect to other vrising servers, just not my main one.
And this happens with both private servers and also the official v-rising servers also.
I play Solo on my privat Server, so I am not sure how that would work. If it were an official Server I would play on , then I could 100% agree with that statement.
For me it was that I got a disconnect from the Server, but reconnect without any issues. Maybe because it was Online it took a while for the Server to register that you are not logged-in anymore. If it also was privat, then I am confused about your situation :D
