Actually, this is a bit of a bug in LAN checkbox and related config file settings.

We've tested the bug to some extent and it appears that the internal game server will start, but it will not enable LAN mode, thus preventing you from joining via IP.

Workaround to use steam works 2 times out of 3, so the only reliable solution for us was to use external network emulation software. For now gonna wait for fixes from devs, i guess.

Uncheck the LAN box (V Rising opening page), click on Refresh and Load the game.
If that does not work, exit the game and reopen it. Then, insure that the LAN Box is still unticked and Load the game.
It's worth a try.

I'm finding that the game will give me this error if my VPN is connected. I just started the "server" yesterday, and my VPN was active when I started it, but trying to load the game today I get this error. Deactivating my VPN allows it to load, but that's really stupid. I'm just trying to play solo...

Thank you. This worked for me. Turned off my vpn and it loaded right up.
