How Multiplayer Works ?
Say i want to make a private world with 4 of my buddies.
Any of us could pop in and out whenever we want and engage with one another whenever?
No resctrictions like the host of the world needs to be online or stuff like that right ?
Would like to understand more details about how the multiplayer experience works from people who played and experienced.
How co-op and pvp entetwine in such a server (with friends alone) ?

You can create a private server, and add a password to keep out others that you don't want to join. The server must be active for players to play on it, meaning the host PC must be on and running the server. This is called a Dedicated Server.

You can either decide to host the dedicated server yourself and keep your own PC and game running, or you can pay money to a third-party to run it for you.

For co-op play, you and your friends can form a clan in the game to progress together and make use of each other's territories and resources as you see fit. Or you can decide how to split up teams and fight against each other if you want.

Ohh, silly me. I thought the server will be active wether im online or not.
Is it expensive to make it online 24/7 and is it hard to set-up ?

I've not actually set one up before, though clicking the option brings you to a page that tells you how to set one up.

Choosing the Rent A Server option will bring you to the G-portal website, where you can choose to rent a server from them. The current price listed for a 10-person server in the US is $16 per 30 days. Prices vary based on location, number of slots for players, and payment durations.

Renting a server is not terribly expensive, there are many companies that provide such services, you can find them easily online and see their prices. If you want to set it up yourself, the complexity will depend on where and how you want to launch it. From the simplest "forward ports, launch executable" to "install a deployment software on a headless linux server".

If you don't have a dedicated host for your server, yes the host have to keep the game up and running. That is quite normal.
What if it's just me and a friend who wants to coop together. How will that work?

You'll either need to set up a dedicated server so the two of you can play whenever you want, or running a private server that your friend can join only when you are also playing.

Can you transform a private server into dedicated server at a certain point and vice versa?

I'm not sure, but I don't think so.

If i create a private server game and leave it, it seems like everything disappeares. My character and the world i've created.
How do you retain progress offline with a friend ? I dont understand :/

That... shouldn't be happening.

So I have a character that I played for 25hrs before the official release. My mate hosted and I joined his private game. Now I’ve got some other mates playing the game and I was wondering if I can use my same character or would I have to start again? Thanks for any help
