Difference between offline save and self hosted server
Hey guys just wanted to ask you
What is the difference between starting a game with a save file locally on my own computer and between downloading and self hosting a server on my computer in therms of multiplayer?

I used to play with my friend in early access in the way that i made a game with a local save file and invited my friend to join my game. Worked perfectly fine
But i see there is now (or maybe it's there since a while. I just didn't noticed) the possibility to setup my own dedicated server on any of my computers and use it as a server to play with friends.

So what are the differences in therms of functionality other than i can let the server run in the background even if i'm not playing?

Does the local save game has any more restrictions? (Like tether distance between players like in Ark or Conan?)

Or are there no differences?

The difference is none if your plan is to play with your friend only. With a hosted server you can make it public or invite any friend at any time and they'll be able to join. You won't need to be hosting at all times.

Ah okay thank you.
Yeah in the past there was a huge difference. The timers for servant missions/converting ect. But that got fortunately patched. So i couldn't think of any other benefit for seting up a server.

Fair point there. Haven't consider inviting others so i didn't think of that. Thank you!

then i mean whats the point.....if u are not ok with wiping ur character every 6 months , you are basically playing an offline game right? I mean i cant even invite a friend since he needs to be always in my server and i am offline ..his character wont be accessible to him.....whose brilliant idea this was ?

i think there is a point in that if you want to play on PvP servers. But if you are a PvE player....yeah i don't see a point in them neither.
