The castle is your base of operations, used as a respawn point, store your resources, contain machines to refine resources and craft all of your equipment, imprison NPCs to use as a source of blood, or convert them into minions that defend your castle from enemy players (if you choose to engage in a PvP server) or be sent out to passively gather resources for you.
There are also plenty of decoration options, from lighting options, wallpapers, plants, seating, paintings, carpets, gardens, and more. Though, due to the limitations of the grid system and tile limits, I don't think you could make the Spencer Mansion, but you can make some pretty sweet castles.
I understand should wait until after 1.0 as everything will reset
and it was just a bad recipe.
the reason why there isn't unlimited freedom in building is because this game is designed with co-op and PVP servers and the limitation is to prevent people from blocking others etc.. it was a sh*t show the first few weeks after EA release. People were blocking others in, building right on top of them.. this was a way to mitigate that. You can still build a super huge castle.. there are a few spots with max tile spaces.
I have...but hard to tell...videos is what first led to this post because of all the interior stuff.
I've played Smalland & Grounded & have the Mansion as a work in Progress in both.
I guess if I had to say, I'd characterize the v rizzing building system as easy to make something that looks coherent and just plain good in. Yes it's not as freeform as others, but as someone who isn't outstandingly skilled at interior decoration in survivalcraft games, it's something I appreciate. Given the right decorative pieces (many of which you unlock through research), I feel like I can make a great looking castle interior without much pain.
More constraints than something like valheim, with less freedom to make truly wild and crazy builds, but also far easier to snap a few building blocks together and get a great looking castle.
If that is the case, try leaving the game before the server resets..
