How weap swapping is, is not gonna change. U gotta make better keybinds for yourself.
At the same time it can feel brutal for newbies, to face a very competent arena skilled player, its also nice that theres alot of room to improve in. Makes it worthwhile to keep investing time into the game to get gud as there's alot of skill expression.
Controller hmm... I already play with unofficial support and you can see how it looks like

I predict sls official controller support will not be competitive in the slightest. I imagine im still gonna use my unofficial support.
Weap swapping is what makes this a good game to pvp in.
Honestly theres more important things than heavy weapon swaping like leading/aiming your shots, spacing and your CDs. You can totally dominate with few weapons, and everything mostly lies into how to do "the combos"
The reason you dont want to suffice with a "few weapons" is to avoid the situation where a similar skilled player fights u with 7+ weapons, then it becomes really hard. Though even when fighting noobs, more weapons really helps in securing more kills, faster kills, easier escapes and more flexibility in handling situaitons.
But yes ofc being good at swapping doesnt mean anything if you dont understand how to use it well regarding what u mentioned such as cd management and timings.
