Solid game, only gets better the more skilled you are. Some real cool skips and skill acquisition are in the game as well. Maybe join a casual PvP server before trying bigger ones, or have a clan ready to go so you can learn. It's quite competitive, like Rust I guess.
My only gripe is about the camera. I kinda understand why they haven't done it yet now that I've used the Modern Camera mod, but I really hope they add that functionality into the game so we don't need a mod for it. Isometric view isn't bad, but the world really feels like it's alive when you can change the angle and look down the road through a tunnel of trees. They don't model the bottom side of a lot of objects, so I'm guessing that's why they haven't made that kind of angle available without mods. Doesn't bother me, but I'm sure someone would whine about that.
It was one of the best game experiences I have ever had. I just cannot explain how fun this game is, you really just have to experience it.
My only complaint is the aesthetic design choice for the playable characters. I wish we had sexier models.
With how stagnant and predictable the map is, and there is not really a lot of "secrets" to explore, there is no lore fluff...it can be a little...exciting as a newbie, gets boring fast, shelved really quickly. But PvP should cushion that, but they seem to be moving away from focusing on that aspect?
It has a few things from mmos/survival/pvp games combined in a way that makes it shallow when compared to the other games, where you're left feeling "ow that's it?, ok".
Lastly..this is just my personal issue...as fun as the mechanics are...honestly I wish it was heavier on the "vampire theme" battle mechanics wise, it has one too many borrowed "fantasy archetypes" from other genres, that really I felt like if this is going to be a vampire game, then go there.
I didn't really want to go like..ow look it's a mage Ice Block..I am chugging fireballs but they are purple!, I am a necromancer, spin to win, summon phantom golem?, I can become a bear..or a toad? am I druid?.
Like even a rip off -Vlad from LoL blood pool- mechanic would've been more interesting. The most iconic vampire aspect "drinking blood", being a stagnant stats mechanic and that's it. It feels like you go out to find a "merchant" to get a piece of equipment...it's does not over all feel like a "vampire's life". It feels like "here's an animation of you turning to bats and drinking someone's neck, job done".
I knew that before buying though, but I bought it when it was priced differently so I was like whatever, I am bored, and given it is a multiplayer experience - sure. I figured they didn't want to create "hard to balance vampire concepts", and just stuck to known already experienced pvp things?
I am waiting to see what the release is going to look like...but overall..I am sorry to say....the new price point for what I experienced in the game? not for me, it's fun...but I have paid less for games that have a lot more to offer as an experience?.
Hoping I'll eat my words.
and I had the exact opposite experience.. I have close to 550 hours (all PVE). I literally can't WAIT to play on Wed I'm already in 2 servers with two groups of friends. I took off Thursday and Friday for this..
Also, not to say anything in particular against this comment but the reviews are sitting pretty at an 88/89% positive rating.
One more point, the game does not need an "end game" it would be completely acceptable to pump in 50-70 hours beat all the bosses, build a super cool castle, unlock all tech and walk away and still have an amazing experience.
Sounds like you just simply do not like this game-play loop.. which is fine.. but this is an amazing game.. and the reviews reflect that.
I paid $100+ for both D4 and Starfield and I got 10x as much playtime as I did out of those 2 games combined. Once again though.. could be just preference.
Was about to lay down the exact same arguments, beat me to it, have an award instead.
