The first example is the Act 1 boss, a level 37.
By this time, you can be Gear Level 41/42.
It's just a matter of searching and upgrading.
You can farm Grayson (a 27) for Merciless Copper and upgraded Nightstalker gear recipes.
You can also beat the boss that unlocks the Gravedigger Ring (iirc, it's Goreswine, another 27).
You can then use Copper Coins you've been saving to purchase an upgrade recipe for the Gravedigger.
The above will give you something of a fighting chance against the Act 1 boss. And is pretty much how you have to handle the rest of the game, if you find things to be difficult. Find the bosses that grant you better armor/weapons/jewelry and focus on them first.
You also should be adjusting the spells you use, as it's free to reset your points.
(On a minor note, if you adjust the Server Settings for stuff like Equipment health/Physical Power/Spell Power, this will NOT take effect on gear you've already created. It will only apply to new stuff after the setting change. So you will need to recraft your weapons/armor/jewelry to get the bonuses.)
1.25 is a good server setting to try for those three. You'll have 25% more power and health, which can give you a bit more of an edge in some tough fights.
On normal, this is true.
On Brutal, you're often fighting bosses 3 levels higher than you.
The priority list for V Rising is this:
1)— Complete the main quest line until you can't.
2)— Upgrade your gearscore
—2a)—Farm resources to upgrade your gear
—2b)—Buy books from vendors with coins you got farming to unlock better gear
—2c)—Farm research materials to unlock better gear
3)— Fight bosses close to or below your level.
4)— Improve your combat effectiveness in other ways, like getting good prisoners and potions and passives when available.
That's it. It's pretty straightforward. It's a bossrush game, by and large. Farming is generally easy, and not a grind. Opening chests in enemy locations will have coins, to buy books you need. Everything drops paper/scrolls/schematics, and books. Most resources you need to build gear can be acquired with just one trip through the place that has them; i.e., one trip to Spider Cave to kill the boss is generally enough to make a full silk set.
