Farming for schematics or recipe books better?

Was trying to find information on this, but don't know if it's easier to just farm the resources to get a random tech than to get recipe books. I've seen some recipe books drop from bosses, but I don't know if they're guaranteed. Doesn't feel like it (not the guaranteed recipes from defeating them for the first time)

Weirdly enough it seems like getting paper for the early Research Desk research is a pain.. then it gets harder with the Study.. then you get the athenaeum and suddenly it's very easy actually.. For the Athenaeum you just need 100 schematics.. by this point in the game you should have a ridiculous amount of scrolls just from looting as you're playing. You use those scrolls and some tech scrap to create 14 schematics at a time and just a short trip into Gloomrot for tech scrap gives enough to randomly discover like 3 things at least.

On top of that, your typical trips around Silverlight for things like gold jewelry should get you plenty of schematics as well and random books. You also get the goldsun coins there and can just buy books you're missing from the merchants.. so while it took like days to do the Research Desk and Study it took me a few hours to get schematics for the Athenaeum.

Short version, early game farming books seems to be best really. Late game getting the materials to randomly discover is easier.

I just go into small steam punk village, they got plenty of scrolls and books, also kill previous bosses for books, you can recycle them into paper of scrolls, if you got lots of money, you can buy books and recycle them too.

For schematics, go into big town and kill everything and loot every house.
