Getting past gear level 70?

I'm currently stuck at gear level 70, no idea how to match the level 74 boss to get the Athenaeum.

Current gear is full dawnthorn, with dark silver level ancestral weapons, and a pendant of the dawnrunner.

Am I supposed to fight the boss while 4 levels under him or no?
