Use any counter and a damage skill. Save counter for his icicle throw and then his "i feel a chill" charge. He's pretty easy. If you want it to take longer just use 2 shield/counter and bow.
IMO the boss balance is absolutely terrible in this game for that exact reason.
It's incredibly fun to learn a boss pattern, its animation tells, etc. and to beat it that way. It's extremely un-satisfying when you continue to die due to poor mechanics or RNG, such as wandering nearby NPCs adding to the fight.
As somebody who really loves being an aggressive melee, it is very frustrating to come up against bosses whose strategy is "literally never be close to them"
And I know that Lore rarely ever informs gameplay, but aren't we supposed to be a Vampire? Everybody treats us like we are the scourge of the night, but a dude keeps his armor in the freezer and suddenly we have to poke at him from afar. At some point, it would be nice to actually BE the monster they tell us we are.
:) this made me laugh so hard, because it reminds me of mortium, everytime i fight near those caged humans, they all totally fine, all those horrors around them, not a care in the world, but OH GOD is that a little vampirelady, AHHHH runnn
*edit* to not go off topic, towards the OP, kiting around rocks, is IMO not recommened, atleast not for a newer player, it teaches bad habits
(by which i am saying if your hardstuck and the boss MUST die by all means rockahead and kite the annoying bugger ;) )
better to start practising early on (like vincent is earlymidgame) to counter, to use i-frames from weapons and so on, cuz come late game your not going to find a giant rock in the middle of the boss area
Otherwise any counter + dash should have enough up time.
You should learn how to dodge his cone frost bolt attack by just side stepping, to ensure you keep the dash ready for the charges.
He's also easily distracted by minions.
I really don't know who designed the bosses in this game but, uh, fire them. Like out of a cannon. Into a brick wall. I'm exaggerating, of course, but I hate going after bosses in this game because I know they're just going to be frustrating. And they ALWAYS are. Literally the only reason to kill any of them is because you MUST if you actually wanna progress in the ♥♥♥♥ that's actually fun.
4 mistakes. that's all you have. on a 3 minute boss fight minimum. when you are slowed af. so far the only way to win this is a near-perfect encounter (night, with a rock to run around, no patrolling enemies nearby and you can read all his moves) or an assist from bane. or if you have a full servant army in your base and you close the door to trap him in your base.
The let him fight bane is an option too...but that could take forever to happen I think.
