Frost barrier are there just in case, but it can really punish clumped groups of ranged enemies.
One strong combo for me is Whisp dance -> Aerial Whip Twirl into a large group -> Veil of Illusion out. It tends to melt large groups of weak mobs.
I also like to use the lightning ball that stays in place (but that is rather late-game)... But not sure how it is called in English, bewcause I play on different language..
You really like to just give no advice in like 99% of your posts, don't you? I apologize for being antagonistic, but I genuinely could not help myself any longer. It was irking me and so I had to open my mouth.
As for the OP, I would suggest leaving ward or switching it to Cursed Skull (keep note, I haven't read the other suggestions as it wouldn't help me to do so, I'm just giving you more ideas to pick and choose from), and switching Chaos Volley for something like Ball Lightning (once you get a skill point in lightning, that is from Meredith the Bright Archer I believe in act 2, i don't think act 1 offers a lightning point). If you do not have Lightning yet, I would suggest.. hm. Spectral Wolf. Kill Polora and get an illusion point - it has both single target damage, and some decent add damage. Crossbow is another good ranged weapon for handling adds, I always felt like Longbow was better suited for single target or 2 target damage at best.
Cursed Skull/Ward + Spectral wolf, Ball lightning, Bone explosion (you would really need scholar blood to make the most out of B.E in my opinion, I don't care for it much other than that), or if you want to make it a bit more challenging but have a unique lil bit of fun and avoid skele spam cheese, you can go chaos volley or aftershock with a gem that procs agonising flames, get rid of cursed skull for Power Surge. Proc it whenever you use Crossbow's rain of bolts, and then use your chaos move to proc agonizing flames (I would suggest aftershock for its aoe usage).
Hope this helps and gl!
(Note, I play normal) God, I just can't get into the whip. I keep hearing it's nice, but it's not to my liking. I'm going to assume it's just because I have a bias towards it and it's not actually ♥♥♥♥.
Is wisp dance good? I've been experimenting with ults as I've switched my ranged build to a scholar range/melee build. Been using either the Red Twins legendary axes, or the Mortira's(?) Lament scythe legendary, cyclone (that spell is an actual BEAST with free cast + melee), and ball lightning. I like to experiment for funsies and I've currently landed on Blood Ult, but I was going to try the lightning dash ultimate. Should I try wisp dance too, dyt?
Both Chaos Volley and Ward of the Damned are strong in PvE. They may not be THE strongest option for every fight, but most players would agree these are strong.
I don't use Longbow, but even at a glance it's obvious that Q is decent vs numerous adds and E is okay. Again, not the strongest, but certainly not as bad as Mace E (low damage) or Spear E. (single target)
And lastly, I can name at least 2 of my recent posts where people have either thanked me or have shown appreciation for my posts. Can you?
I find the whip addictive. While having longer range is so and so, having Aerial Whip Twirl of death is amazing. A dodge with AoE effect and to top it off it can even push V-Bloods around? Amazing.
Whisp dance is fantastic! If you can hit... The bloody ultimate circles those whisps so far from you that most melee weapons cause them to miss. AwT's range matches this wide miss-box perfectly, but most other weapons just get too close for the ultimate to properly work, and forget ranged weapons. Ranged play style ruins WD Imo.
Nope, and I read this thread quite a bit.
Also Chaos Volley does not excel at add clearing, and Ward does not either. It's good for defense and add *spawning*, for aggro taking. I did point out what was wrong via subtle implications; you basically just said 'na ur good keep at it just don't miss your shots', which was an assumption that they were missing, as opposed to suggesting alternative routes they could take with their setup, which is what they were asking for. Longbow isn't good for adds imho, even with its Q. I much prefer crossbow, scythe, or even axes. Sword is good too with its whirlwind, and it has good m1 movement as well. That was what I was trying to get at, but I believe I have made it clearer in this response.
I don't use discharge at all, the storm shield only lassts like a second and a half or 2 seconds. How does it work for you?
Also, why static weapon? Curious since you have 3 static skills already, usually I can keep static up very frequently with scholar + cyclone and ball, plus I use the consume static for stun. It is so good just being able to shut down a behemoth that's about to charge.
Oh, you want to rush at me for 200 damage and 180 turn rate? Here, have a ball lightning explosion to stun you. Get nerded on.
Yes! I knew wisp would be wasted on a range style as soon as I read it. It read to me as a perfect melee ultimate, but I never got around to trying it because I fell on chaos barrage and then blood ult. It's sad to hear that it doesn't even match perfectly like I expected for melee.... I tend to stay at range here and there, but I have to get in close for cyclone. I'll give it a try next rift 2 I do and see how it works, I usually only ult for bosses though.
As for whip... I dunno, I just never got into it. Maybe if I get the legendary that will redeem it for me, but as of right now using Lament's E + static, along with thhose skeles it spawns.. is just too good to pass up. A lot of bosses chase so cyclone punishes them, and those that are ranged.. well, ball lightning and scythe E cures that problem well enough.
♥♥♥♥ you, Angram. You cheesy bastard.
Oh yeah, another thing.. if you want survivability, I would use blood rage with a good gem. Since you're ranged you may be opposed to that idea; trust me, I was too. But, it's a good buffer and it increases your move speed as well which sometimes allows you to make good distance. Get a gem that shields you for some spell power as well and you have a heal + dmg buffer that allows you to play for time a bit more. I wouldn't call this choice ideal, but I'm also suggesting things that aren't super cheesy or meta, so that you have more ideas to play around with for variability.
Another funny thing to run is Blood Rage + power surge with a melee like axes or slashers (you get that in act 2, so not sure if you have that one). It's funny when you cycle power surge and blood rage for funnies, but again not ideal. Axes do well for adds though, so I would give those a try if you want a melee alternative.
Axes + Cursed skull + blood rage/power surge is a good choice, with either longbow or crossbow for ranged as needed.
1)It can roll this mod: Hitting a different target with the second projectile deals 31 - 50% additional damage. (first projectile misses count)
2)Any Chaos spell triggers an explosion that deals 50% magic damage when a target affected by Ignite perishes.
Also, not every fight even has more than 2 adds (Solarus, Styx), and even in those that do, they don't always appear all at once or close to each other (Foulrot)
