How do I get iron ore?

I'm in the south, and have an objective that need iron.
So I walk north, and try to attack the rocks that have iron.
But it says I need a higher attack level.

I already have a copper mace, and the only way I see to get "higher attack level" is by getting an iron weapon.

So how tf do I get iron if I don't have an iron weapon, which I can't get without iron?

I've never seen any pickaxe of any variety, and don't have the option to craft one. Only maces and the hammer dropped by the copper mine boss. That hammer didnt work either.

Sorry, I forgot the weapon to get minerals is in fact the hammer.

Have you tried the Merciless copper hammer?

Just do the bosses in order. Clive drops you merciless copper weapon recipe which you need for iron. And then you need merciless iron for something else.

I have already killed every act 1 boss (including clive), but do not have the blueprint for merciless copper mace.

I've also visited both merchants and neither has it as an option. only spear, axe, sword, and crossbow are options at the vendor.

Any merciless copper melee weapon will work on iron nodes. You don't need to use a mace.

The act list says that clive only drops the recipe for minor explosive boxes.

You don't need merciless hammer/mace to mine iron you just need merciless something. Just make few rounds with sword or something and then make mace

Certain bosses are guaranteed to drop an item from specific loot pools. In this case, Clive is guaranteed to drop a single merciless copper weapon book.

I see. I went up and spent a very long time farming iron ore with my merciless axes lol.

Maces are the best tool to use when going for ores, just like axes are the best tool to use for wood. That said, any tool will do the job, just with varying rates of efficiency and yield.
Merciless copper tools are needed for mining Iron, and later on, merciless iron tools will be needed to mine silver.

I just used a merciless weapon i happened to have. Worked fine till i was able to upgrade the mace.

I farmed paper and used the research table to get merciless copper mace. This works for iron
