Am I supposed to just build my base on grass?

I noticed that in all the promo videos for this game, there were these sprawling castles with rooms and furniture and it looked amazing.

Fast forward to now, almost my entire base is just sitting on grass. My castle looks like a garage sale. It won't let me build flooring because "the environment" is in the way. Well ya, no Sh*t, I'm in a forest. Can I really not use 75% of the land in the zones marked for base building? Where on earth did they make those bases in the promo videos? I JUST WANT TO BUILD A SWEET CASTLE! Any clarification would be amazing! Thank you

Placing a castle heart will give you building access to the entire territory (shown in white when looking at the map). Make sure to clear any rocks, trees, ruins, and other stuff that is in the way when trying to build flooring.

Yes, that's what I'm having trouble with. I DO clear all the rocks and trees, but most of my flooring can't be built because the "environment" is in the way, when everything on that tile has already been cleared.

Could you post a screenshot? That might clear things up a bit.

It's possible you need to clear bushes, stumps, etc. Try swinging your sword around and see if it clears some space for you.
