I recommend not using the Sword at all. While Sword Q does decent damage and ignores shield/counter abilities, Sword E is very clunky and takes lots of practice, very low ping and beating the game several times to understand how to chain it without taking massive damage since it's very easy to mistime it and land exactly in a boss' big AoE attack.
Switch to Slashers for Q/E and either Axes or Reaper for E. Slashers also have the benefit of being fastest while you use normal attacks.
>For spells I use the blood projectile since I have a good t3 jewel for it,
This is typically not a good option unless your ally can also combo off of it.
>and use the spectral wolf as well for the same reason.
This can be good with healing, but when you have no counter/shield skill your movement better be sublime and you should be hundreds of hours and several playthroughs for it to be competitive with more damaging options.
>For the jewels, when it says that it consumes a status, does that mean I have to apply the status with another spell, then use the jeweled spell to consume the status?
Yes.
>Bonus Q: Do bosses have characteristics like undead, creature...etc? Like will using a spear against the wolf/bear/spider/werewolf boss do more dmg?
Yes. However, some testing is required as it is not always obvious. For example, Maja's demons are considered Undead, even though Demons and Undead are typically distinct creatures in most games.
Also, Mace used to do more damage to Terah's Golem form (but not her human form), but I think they have removed that as of Gloomrot update. Remember, bonus damage is applied when the hit connects based on your current weapon, so quickly swapping from a weapon with a good Q/E ability to a weapon with a bonus will apply the bonus. Spear E for example is very low DPS, so use something else for E and then swap to Spear if the target is a Creature.
>As for the ultimate, the blood beam skill is very fun so I run that mainly.
This is a bad skill because it is static channeling and there are higher DPS skills, so it is not recommended.
Multiple weapons, especially reaper E and spear/pistol Q for many-hit abilities to proc static more.
Just this will steamroll the entire pve game just fine. No bad matchup.
- I actually didn't realize you could teleport to the target and do aerial slashes with sword E. I just used it as another projectile poke and cc for mobs. And yea the Q is really good and fun. I'll try experimenting with other weapons. I used the greatsword a bit and like the feel of it. Never actually used the slashers before. I'll check those out too.
- Yea I thought as much. It's just an easy dmg poke so I always kept it.
- Tbh I just like that it bounces off of enemies so it's a good and guaranteed multi-target of sorts. I did get the jewel that heals you when the wolf returns but I let my partner have it.
And yea, I do have a hard time with movement. Basically feel naked when I use my dodge and when I'm up against a boss that's heavy on projectiles/AOE and the like, so I can't do anything but eat a hit or reposition, and the walking isn't fast enough most of the time.
- Haven't actually swapped weapons mid combo or fight before, just a bit too micro for me.
- Yea I figured. I mostly use it when I know the boss would be stationary for a bit, or when the boss is busy fighting my partner so I can dump a good bunch of dmg on it. It's also fun to use when you round up a bunch of enemies you aggroed and line them up to use it.
I don't have that many Ults unlocked so far so I'll check other ones out. Currently we only defeated like 3 bosses in Gloomrot and 1 in cursed forest. We're around lvl 63.
Another Q: What status effects do bosses resist and won't apply to them?
Also, what spell combinations and weapons would you suggest to check out? Stuff like the dodges especially since they all blend together for me except the chaos one which is 2 shorter dashes.
